ENTERING THE
C L A S S R O OM
• As the students walk into the
classroom, they will be greeted
at the door, hang up their
backpacks, put their snacks in
their cubbies, and then choose a
learning center to begin their
day.
TARDINESS IN THE CLASSROOM

• If a student is
tardy, then they
will place their
tardy pass into the
bucket. This will
eliminate
interrupting the
classroom
instruction.
ATTENDANCE

As the students come into the classroom, they will move their name to the “I’m
Away” sign to the “I’m Here” sign.
SEATING
ARRANGEMENTS
• The students will have flexible
seating. The cooperative learning
groups will be heterogeneous and
decided by me. However, they will
have plenty of opportunities to choose
their own seats when it is appropriate.
CLEAN UP AND THROWING TRASH
AWAY

The students will know it is time to

clean up when I begin to play music.
The students will have assigned jobs to
reduce the chaos in the room.

The students will be able to throw trash

away at any time, if it is not during
classroom instruction.
PENCIL SHARPENING
The students will get a new pencil every
morning. When a pencil breaks, they will be
able to replace it with a sharpened one. They
will place their dull pencils in at the end of the
day. The dull pencils will be sharpened by a
student assigned to the classroom job every
morning.
GETTING A DRINK
Students will be able to get a drink of
water at any appropriate time. The
students will simply take a pass and
leave a pass so that I know why they are
out of the classroom. I will encourage
students to bring a water bottle to class.

ILLNESS IN THE CLASSROOM

The students will go to the nurse

when they are not feeling well.
However, if a student has an
accident in class, I will ask my
neighbor teacher to keep an eye on
the classroom while I take the
student to the nurse and ask for
clean up help from a custodian.

RESTROOM PROCEDURES
Students are allowed to use the
restroom at any appropriate time.
The students must take a pass and
leave a pass at their seat to let me
know that they are away from the
classroom.
TURNING IN WORK

First, the students will refer to the anchor chart. Then, the students will use their clip when
turning in their papers. Finally, the students will read independently to allow the other students the
same quiet time that they had.
DISMISSAL
The students will contribute to creating a guided
dismissal checklist. We will then create our own
dismissal anchor chart so that students will be able to
refer to it when it is nearing the end of class or school
day.
EXITING THE CLASSROOM
After dismissal procedures, I will provide the
students with a sticky note and ask, “What
stuck with you today?” The students will
stick their post-it note on the anchor chart and
put their pencil in the dull jar as they walk
out of the classroom.
MUSIC FOR TRANSITIONS

The students will know that it is time to

transition between tasks when they begin
to hear music playing.
