Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works

 Introduction
 KS&EW is the oldest and
only facility of its kind.
 Caters for shipbuilding, ship
repair and general engineering works.
 KS&EW is entirely owned by Govt of Pakistan.
 It is an autonomous commercial organization working
under ministry of Defense Production(MoDP).
 Managed by a board of directors headed by Chief of
Naval Staff as chairman.
 Real-Admiral Ather Saleem is managing director of
KS&EW.
 Historical Background
 Established in Mid-fifties as
project of Pakistan Industrial
development corporation(PIDC)
by General Iskander mirza president of Pakistan.

 Incorporated as a public limited company in 1957 under

chairman ship of Nawab Malik Amir Khan of Kalabagh

 Since inception till 2006 worked as autonomous body under

Ministry of Defense

 In August 2006 transferred to Ministry of Defense Production

 Ship Building History of KS&EW
 SS Al-Abbas ,a 12860 DWT
cargo vessel was the first
ship built by KS&EW in 1967 for
Muhammadi steamship company.
 Jeddah 1 & 2 were built for Jeddah Port Authority Saudi Arabia
in 1973 being first foreign customers.
 The first ship for PNSC was Cargo vessel Lalazar a 13300
DWT vessel built by KS&EW in 1974 .
 A 13160 DWT cargo vessel Hetian was built for china National
Machinery ,import & export corporation in 1978.
 MV Islamabad was the largest general cargo and container ship
built at KS&EW in 1983.

KS&EW is located at
24.85 degree north latitude
and 66.99 degree east longitude.
It is situated at West Wharf Karachi.
It spreads over an area of 71 Acres.
Strategically located on the cross roads of South
Asia and Gulf Region.
