INTRODUCTION
AN ONLINE CLASS IS A COURSE CONDUCTED OVER THE INTERNET. THEY ARE GENERALLY
CONDUCTED THROUGH A LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, IN WHICH STUDENTS CAN VIEW
THEIR COURSE SYLLABUS AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS, AS WELL AS COMMUNICATE WITH
FELLOW STUDENTS AND THEIR COURSE INSTRUCTOR.
ONLIEN CLASSES CAN BE EXPERIENCED ON SMARTPHONES AND LAPTOPS BUT, SOME PEOPLE
CAN’T AFFORD TO BUY LAPTOPS AND COMPUTERS SO THEY RELY ON PAPER MODULES TO PASS
THE SEMESTER. ONLINE CLASSES ARE GENERALLY SELF-PLACED, IT IS FLEXIBLE ON TIME AND
STUDENTS CAN ADJUST THEIR TIME TO ATTEND THEIR COURSES.
WE PLAN TO CARRY THIS RESEARCH BY GIVING OUT SURVEY FORM TO STUDENTS OF ST.AGNES
ACADEMY OF CALOOCAN INC. AND ASKING IF THEY’RE IN FAVOR OF ONLINE CLASSES AND . WE
ALL KNOW THAT ONLINE CLASS IS PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY TIRING EVEN THOUGH IT IS
THROUGH GADGETS.
THIS RESEARCH IS IMPORTANT TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING ONLINE CLASS
BECAUSE, SOME STUDENTS ARE IN FAVOR OF ONLINE CLASSES AND THERE ARE SOME WHO ARE
IN FAVOR SO, WE CAN KNOW THE REASONS WHY THEY’RE IN FAVOR AND NOT IN FAVOR OF
ONLINE CLASSES TO FURTHER ENCHANCE OR TO UPGRADE THE STUDENTS LEARNING
PLATFORM DURING THIS PANDEMIC.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
ONLINE LEARNING IS EDUCATION THAT TAKES PLACE OVER THE INTERNET. IT IS REFFERED TO ANOTHER TERM CALLED “E-LEARNING”. THE
CORONAVIRUS (COVID19) IS PREVENTING STUDENTS AND STAFF, AT MANY CAMPUSES, FROM MEETING FACE-TO-FACE. LEARNING
INSTITUTIONS NEED TO DEVELOP ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL DELIVERY METHODS TO MOVE THE CLASSROOM ONLINE. ONLINE LEARNING IS
REFERRED TO BY MANY NAMES THIS ARE DISTANCE LEARNING, BLENDED LEARNING,ONLINE EDUCATION AND VIRTUAL LEARNING.
AS THE PREVALENCE OF ONLINE EDUCATION CONTINUES TO GROW, SO DO CONCERNS ABOUT STUDENT SUCCESS. ONLINE STUDENTS TEND TO
WITHDRAW MORE OFTEN AND EARN LOWER GRADES, COMPARED TO STUDENTS IN TRADITIONAL CLASSROOMS. EXPLANATIONS FOR THIS
DISPARITY RANGE FROM STUDENT CHARACTERISTICS TO INSTITUTIONAL SHORTCOMINGS TO COURSE DESIGN. ATTEMPTS TO COUNTER THIS
TREND ARE OFTEN RESOURCE INTENSIVE AND YIELD MIXED RESULTS. I HYPOTHESIZE THAT THE DIFFICULTY OF ESTABLISHING STUDENT–
INSTRUCTOR RAPPORT IN ONLINE CLASSES CONTRIBUTES TO LOWER STUDENT SUCCESS. WITHOUT RAPPORT, STUDENTS ARE LESS LIKELY TO
REMEMBER AND PRIORITIZE ONLINE CLASSES. (GLAZIER,R.2016)

THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS FORCED MANY INSTRUCTORS TO RAPIDLY SHIFT TO ONLINE/DISTANCE TEACHING. WITH A NARROW
PREPARATION WINDOW, MANY INSTRUCTORS ARE AT A LOSS OF STRATEGIES THAT ARE BOTH EFFECTIVE IN RESPONDING TO THE CRISIS AND
COMPATIBLE WITH THEIR PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES. ONE URGENT NEED IN CLASSROOMS AT ALL LEVELS IS TO SUPPORT SOCIAL READING OF
COURSE MATERIALS. TO FULFILL THIS NEED, THIS PAPER AIMS TO PRESENT A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW ON USING WEB ANNOTATION
IN K-12 AND HIGHER EDUCATION TO PROVIDE PRACTICAL AND EVIDENCE-BASED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EDUCATORS TO INCORPORATE
SOCIAL ANNOTATION IN ONLINE TEACHING.

AS ONLINE CLASS OFFERINGS CONTINUE TO PROLIFERATE AND MORE STUDENTS TAKE AT LEAST ONE ONLINE CLASS IN COLLEGE, MORE
RESEARCH IS NEEDED TO EXPLORE FACTORS THAT IMPACT STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF THEIR ONLINE CLASSES. PAST RESEARCH HAS FOUND
A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STUDENTS' COMPUTER SELF-EFFICACY AND THEIR SATISFACTION WITH ONLINE LEARNING, BUT LITTLE
RESEARCH HAS EXPLORED HOW LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND ONLINE LEARNING SELF-EFFICACY RELATE TO PERCEPTIONS OF
SATISFACTION AND PERCEIVED USEFULNESS OF ONLINE CLASSES. IN ADDITION TO CONFIDENCE, STUDENTS MUST ALSO IMPLEMENT AND
APPLY THEIR LEARNING SKILLS IN AN ONLINE ENVIRONMENT; THUS SELF-REGULATION AND TIME MANAGEMENT AS WELL AS PAST ONLINE
LEARNING EXPERIENCE ARE ADDITIONAL FACTORS THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO BE RELATED TO SATISFACTION WITH AND USEFULNESS OF
ONLINE LEARNING.(LANDRUM,B.2020)
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
• ONLINE CLASS CONTAINS PROBLEMS IN THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH OF THE STUDENTS THAT IS WHY, THE
RESEARCHERS COME UP WITH THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS:
• GENERAL PROBLEM: THE EFFECT OF ONLINE CLASSES IN BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF STUDENTS
AND HOW IT AFFECTS THE SOCIALIZATION OF THE STUDENTS.
• SUB PROBLEMS:
• ONLINE CLASS DECREASES SELF-ESTEEM OF THE STUDENTS WHEN IT COMES TO RECITING AND ACTIVITIES THAT
ARE GIVEN BY THE TEACHERS.
• ONLINE CLASS ALSO INCREASES HEADACHES, PHOBIAS AND PARANOIA THAT AFFECTS THE MENTAL HEALTH OF
EACH STUDENT.
• IT CAN ALSO CONTAIN NEGATIVE INTERACTIONS SUCH AS CYBERBULLYING, SEXTING AND DEALING WITH
UNWANTED SOLICITATIONS.
• ONLINE LEARNING/CLASSES CAN CAUSE SOCIAL ISOLATION AND IT REQUIRES STRONG SELF-MOTIVATION AND TIME
MANAGEMENT SKILLS.
• ONLINE CLASS IS LACK OF COMMUNICATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT IN ONLINE STUDENTS BECAUSE IT IS NOT
THAT EASY TO COMMUNICATE THROUGH ONLINE.
• DURING QUIZZES, EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT CHEATING PREVENTION IS COMPLICATED THAT CAN AFFECT
THEIR MENTAL HEALTH WHICH THEY CAN APPLY WHEN THEY GROW OLDER.
• ONLINE CLASSES CAN ALSO LEAD INTO INCREASED ANXIETY, PERCEIVED ATTENTION PROBLEMS AND DEPRESSION.
CHAPTER 2:

ONLINE CLASS IS A COURSE CONDUCTED OVER THE INTERNET. THEY ARE GENERALLY CONDUCTED THROUGH A LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, IN WHICH STUDENTS
CAN VIEW THEIR COURSE SYLLABUS AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS, AS WELL AS COMMUNICATE WITH FELLOW STUDENTS AND THEIR COURSE INSTRUCTOR. EVERYONE CAN
PERFORM IN ONLINE CLASSES BUT THERE ARE SOME SHY STUDENTS WHO CAN’T PERFORM BECAUSE OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM AND SOME CAN’T PERFORM WELL IF THE
STUDENTS HAVE A POOR INTERNET CONNECTIO
E-LEARNING OR COMMONLY KNOWN AS “ONLINE LEARNING” HAS ONLY BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1999 WHEN THE WORD WAS FIRST UTILIZED AT A CBT SYSTEM SEMINAR. CBT
SEMINAR OR COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING INVOLVES THE USE OF A PERSONAL OR NETWORKED COMPUTER FOR THE ACCESS AND DELIVERY OF LEARNING PROGRAMS OR
EVERY LEARNING SUBJECT THAT YOU WANT TO LEARN. LONG BEFORE THE INTERNET WAS LAUNCHED, DISTANCE COURSES WERE BEING OFFERED TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH
EDUCATION ON PARTICULAR SUBJECTS OR SKILLS. IN THE 1840’S ISAAC PITMAN TAUGHT HIS PUPILS SHORTHAND VIA CORRESPONDENCE. THIS FORM OF SYMBOLIC WRITING
WAS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE WRITING SPEED AND WAS POPULAR AMONGST SECRETARIES, JOURNALISTS, AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO DID A GREAT DEAL OF NOTE TAKING
OR WRITING. PITMAN, WHO WAS A QUALIFIED TEACHER, WAS SENT COMPLETED ASSIGNMENTS BY HIS STUDENTS VIA THE MAIL SYSTEM AND HE WOULD THEN SEND THEM
MORE WORK TO BE FINISHED.
ELITE INSTITUTIONS AROUND THE WORLD NOW OFFER OPEN COURSEWARE, ONLINE DEGREES, AND ONLINE CLASSES THAT ARE BOTH LEGITIMIZING AND POPULARIZING THE

IN THEIR HOMES, MAKING IT EASIER FOR THEM TO LEARN ABOUT PARTICULAR SUBJECTS AND DEVELOP CERTAIN SKILL SETS. ONLINE LEARNING OF STUDENTS TODAY MOSTLY
NEED THE USE OF INTERNET BECAUSE EVERY ONLINE CLASS PLATFORM REQUIRES THE USE OF THE INTERNET THUS, SOME STUDENTS CAN’T AFFORD TO ATTEND CLASS
BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL ISSUES OR INTERNET ISSUES. ONLINE CLASSES WAS IMPLEMENTED ON THE STUDENTS BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC COMMONLY KNOWS AS “CORONA
VIRUS” , BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC THE GOVERNMENT IN ALMOST ALL OF THE COUNTRIES ANNOUNCE THE USE OF ONLINE LEARNING FOR THE STUDENTS AS THEIR
LEARNING PLATFORM BECAUSE OF THE THREAT OF THE PANDEMIC. ONLINE LEARNING IS HARD ON SOME STUDENTS BECAUSE SOME STUDENTS HAVE LOW SELF-ESTEEM AND
LOW CONFIDENCE SO THEY CAN’T BLEND IN THE CLASS WELL AND DOESN’T GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN PROPERLY.
ONLINE LEARNING IMPLEMENTED IN THE PHILLIPINES IN 2014 REPUBLIC ACT 10650 OR THE OPEN DISTANCE LEARNING (ODL) ACT OF 2014 “ BY REACHING OUT TO STUDENTS IN
THE TERTIARY LEVEL TO MAKE US OF VIRTUAL LEARNING PLATFORMS IN TIMES OF CALAMITY OR CRISIS. “ EDGARDO ANGARA, WHICH INSTITUTIONALIZED OPEN DISTANCE
AND FLEXIBLE LEARNING METHODS IN ALL LEVELS OF TERTIARY EDUCATION IN THE COUNTRY.
ON TOP OF THAT ONLINE LEARNING IS NOT BEST IN THE PHILLIPINES BECAUSE SOME OF OUR FELLOW FILIPINO CAN’T AFFORD A MOBILE PHONE OR A LOPTOP. IN ADDITION OF
THAT IN OUR INTERNET CONNECTION IS QUITE SLOW AND SOME FILIPINO IS NOT A FAST LEARNER.
 
ONLINE CLASSES IS BEING USED TODAY IN THE PHILIPPINES AS THE PRIMARY(OPTIONAL)
LEARNING PLATFORM FOR NOW BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC NAMED COVID-19.
CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) IS AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE CAUSED BY A NEWLY
DISCOVERED CORONAVIRUS. MOST PEOPLE WHO FALL SICK WITH COVID-19 WILL
EXPERIENCE MILD TO MODERATE SYMPTOMS AND RECOVER WITHOUT SPECIAL
TREATMENT. COVID-19 SPREADS FASTER THAN ANY PANDEMIC THAT THE PHILIPPINES HAD
BECAUSE, THE VIRUS THAT CAUSES COVID-19 IS MAINLY TRANSMITTED THROUGH
DROPLETS GENERATED WHEN AN INFECTED PERSON COUGHS, SNEEZES, OR EXHALES.
THE RESEARCHES PLAN ON DOING THIS RESEARCH BY HANDING OUT SURVEY FORMS ON
THE STUDENTS OF THE SPECIFIC SCHOOL AND SPECIFIC PEOPLE SO THAT THE RESEARCHES
CAN KNOW IF THE STUDENTS ARE IN FAVOR OF ONLINE CLASS BECAUSE THIS LEARNING
PLATFORM CAN AFFECT STUDENT’S PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL STATUS. THE RESEARCHES
AIM TO KNOW MORE IN-DEPTH INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THE ONLINE CLASSES AFFECTS
THE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL STATE OF THE STUDENTS SO THAT WE CAN KNOW THE
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTEGES OF IT , IF IT IS GOOD TO THE STUDENTS OR NOT? , AND
IF IT’S MORE ADVANTAGEOUS THAN FACE TO FACE CLASSES.
