Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense is a form of tense that states an action


completed at a certain time in the past. In simple past
tense, time information is usually referred to or written
specifically (example: yesterday, two days ago, last week,
etc.)
Simple Past Tense

The thing to remember is that the verb used in simple past is the form of the
past tense verb (commonly called verb 2). The second verb form can be divided
into 2, namely the regular form and irregular form.

Whereas, the form of verb 2 is irregular,


Regular verb 2 form; only add the including:
suffix -ed, -d, or -ied), including:

walk → walked, teach → taught,


call → called, eat → ate,
talk → talked, get → got,
used → used, bring → brought,
study → studied, and etc. give → give,
drink → drank, etc.

Positive
To form a simple past tense sentence, the formula is as follows

S + Verb 2 + O

In simple past tense sentences, the verb / verb used is the second verb form.
There are 2 types of verbs / Verb, namely Regular Verb and Irregular Verb. For
regular verbs, add -ed / -d behind the first form of verbs.
The positive sentence use S + Verb 2 + O
ex :
1.Abdul went to Bali for holiday last Sunday ( Irreguler because the verb have
other form, so no need to add d, ed, or ied )
2.She joined english club class at school yesterday.
Simple Past Tense Negative

 S + did + not + Verb 1


It’s use for negative sentence in past tense which uses verbs
ex : I did not sleep well last night
 S + To Be (Was / Were) + not
It’s use for negative sentence in past tense which not use verbs
ex : Arif was not the smartest students in the class
Simple Past Tense Interogative

 Did + S + Verb 1
It’s use for interogative sentence in past tense which uses verbs
ex : Did you see my bag on the table last night ?
 Was / Were + S
It’s use for interogative sentence in past tense which not use verbs
ex : Were you late to come to the office at 11 am yesterday ?
