Health,Safety and Enviroment

Working At High
• Working at height remains one of the biggest causes of fatalities and major injuries
• Common cases include falls from ladders and through fragile surfaces (for example a fall through a fragile
roof).
What do we have to do?

• We must use the right type of equipment and skilled persons which is suitable for working at height.
• Must have low risk (doesn’t mean zero risk. Every kind of work at high places have various risk. We must
plan to be lowest risk work before we do) .
Control! How to control the saturation?
• First assess the risks. Factors to weigh up include the height of the task, the duration and frequency, and the
condition of the surface being worked on.

Before working at height work through these simple steps:

avoid work at height where it's reasonably practicable to do so

where work at height cannot be easily avoided, prevent falls using either an existing place of work that is already
safe or the right type of equipment.

Control! How to control the saturation?
.minimize the distance and consequences of a fall, by using the right type of equipment where the risk cannot be
eliminated.
.Avoid the employees to work by forcing under pressure.
.Must be reasonable.

Do….
• If we use Ladder , must place suitable position and another person must support the ladder
• Safety Harness must attached to suitable place with ladder.
• Must set sufficient drop zone before working depending on workplace’s high.
• Drop zone should set at least ¼ to 1/3 of the work place high. ( for example : you will work at around 10 feet,
your drop zone should be around 3 or 4 feets radius from center ).
Don’t……
•overload ladders – consider the equipment or materials workers are carrying before working at height.
Check the pictogram or label on the ladder for information
•overreach on ladders or stepladders
•rest a ladder against weak upper surfaces, eg glazing or plastic gutters
