cost effective and readily available materials. In Mechanical
the evaluation of the developed reaper Engineering
machine the following conclusions are made
The materials and the mechanisms we used
reduce the cost of the reaper machine
• The developed machine is compact and it
reduces other extra mechanisms that have
been implemented on other standard reaper
machines
• Significant components of reaper are studied
and analysis’s in terms of material selection,
geometric analysis, and force analysis is clearly
made.
• One surly can say that the design outputs
have generally been illustrated more after
having investigation on the different assembly
drawings and part drawing of each component
and the result reveal that by integrating CAD
and solid work will be highly beneficial and the
design is safe. This design reduces
manufacturing cost, labor time and
maintenance cost; the machine can easily be
available by small scale farmers with reasonable
cost

Summary of literature survey
• The Manual labour consumes more time and more money than
automatic mechanisms
• The machine built was for multi crop reaping and not optimized
especially for Toor dal
• The small machines were not developed due to the distance
between each crops were more
• The harvester designed with the power transmission mechanism is
found to be more compact and feasible in operation

Concept 1 :Rotary mechanism
Rotary Blades:
• A rotary cutter is a tool is generally used by quilters to cut fabric.
Working principle:
• The motion from the wheels is utilized to drive the cutters which is powered by pushing force of
the operator.
• Initially the motion from the wheels is transferred through the axle to a crown wheel (large bevel
gear) which rotates when the axle is rotated, so the crown wheel is rugged fit to the axle.
• The crown wheel transmits the motion to the pinion bevel gear upon which a sprocket is provided.
• The motion from the rear sprocket is transmitted to the front sprockets through the chain drive
where the cutters rotate and cutting action takes place .

So among the above 3 concepts we have selected the reciprocating blade cutter concepts
which fix very well with our product.
• A reciprocating saw is a type of saw in which the cutting action is achieved through a push-and-pull
motion of the blade is as shown in fig

How does it work?
• The 2.2 kW recoil start type of diesel engine is selected as the driving force to operate
the cutting and conveying mechanism of the machine.
• The 3000-rpm developed by the diesel engine is reduced to around 1100 rpm by the v-
belt connected to pulley mounted on the main shaft .
• The large pulley mounted on the main shaft causes the shaft to rotate at 1100 rpm.
• The 1100 rpm of the main shaft reduced to around 600-700 rpm for the cutter bar by
bevel gear that mounted between the main shaft and the intermediate shaft
• The crank mechanism mounted on the intermediate shaft is responsible for transferring
this 600-rpm cutting speed to the movable cutter bar used to accomplish the cutting
action.
• The conveyer pulley on shaft transfers its motion to the other conveyer pulleys by the
conveyer belt.
• As the conveyer belt rotates through the conveyer pulleys, the lugs fixed on the belt are
responsible for rotating the star wheels which in turn are used for the conveying action.

Detailed design
DESIGN OF CUTTING BLADES:
Cutting blades are made of High carbon steel to withstand maximum shear stress required to
cut stern of crops. Blade is designed in Triangular section with width of 50mm and height of
40mm. There are total 2 sets of cutting blades, first 12 sets of blades over a length of 600mm.
and second set blade
with 9 sets of blades over length of 445mm which is reciprocates attached to lever of
cutting mechanism. Force analysis is done of these blades using ANSYS 15.0 commercial
software. Height of cutting blades from ground level is around 200mm to 250mm. a=50mm,
b=70mm, d=30mm, and t=3mm.
As dimensions shown are above it used for pushing crops which made to attach to belt drive
of crop collecting mechanism with help of Bolt and nut of dia. 3mm.
