actions and to the goodness and
badness of the motives and ends of
such actions.

Be an ethical communicator
when delivering a public
speech
• Share information only from
reputable sources.
•Understand the information you are
sharing! If you don't understand what
that research is saying, ask a professor
to help you make sense of it.
• Verbally cite your sources
during your presentation!

• If you are presenting

something that isn't a fact,
make sure you are honest
and clear that you are merely
speculating, not presenting
factual information.
• Avoid using offensive language!

• Avoid exposing your audience to

sensitive sights and sounds.

• It is up to you to know your

audience and prepare and deliver
your speech with their best
interest in mind!
Importance of Ethical
Communication
• Helps you discover and
make explicit your ethical
positions and standars.
• Enables you to diagnose the
ethical position of your
interlocutors.
• Provides you with a conceptual
framework that will guide you towards
becoming a consistent ethical
business communicator.
Ten Basics of Ethical
Communication
1.Seek to “elicit the best” in
communications and interactions
with other group members.
2. Listen when others speak.
3. Speak non-judgementally
4. Speak from your own experience
and perspective, expressing your
own thoughts, needs and feelings.
5. Seek to understand others.
6. Avoid speaking for others, for
example by charactering what others
have said without checking your
understanding.
7. Manage your own personal
boundaries; share only what you are
comfortable sharing.
8.Respect the personal
boundaries of others.
9.Avoid interrupting and side
conversation.
10.Make sure that everyone
has time to speak, that all
members have relatively equal
“air time” if they want it.
