3 TYPES OF NON-

MENDELIAN
INHERITANCE
Non-mendelian inheritance

■ This is a type of inheritance wherein the pattern of

phenotypes does not coincide with those that was
presented in the Mendelian Law of Inheritance.
1. Incomplete dominance

■ It is a form of intermediate inheritance

in which one allele does not complete
dominate another allele, resulting in a
NEW PHENOTYPE.
EXAMPLE: INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE

2. CODOMINANCE

• Both alleles are expressed equally in the phenotype of

heterozygote.
• a relationship between two versions of a gene. Individuals
receive one version of a gene, called an allele, from each parent.
If the alleles are different, the dominant allele usually will be
expressed, while the effect of the other allele, called recessive,
is masked.
■ During meiosis, chromosome pairs are split apart
and distributed into cells called gametes. Each
gamete contains a single copy of every
chromosome, and each chromosome contains
one allele for every gene. Therefore, each allele
for a given gene is packaged into a separate
gamete.
3. Principle of Multiple Alleles

■ an allele of a genetic locus having more than two

allelic forms within a population.n
■ It is a more than two alleles can code, or represent to a
gene/trait.

■ Maria and her husband are expecting their

first child. Maria is now on her 9th month of

pregnancy. Maria is a carrier of homozygous
blood type A () while his husband is a carrier
of a heterozygous blood type B (). What will
be the possible blood type that their offspring
will inherit?
Step 1: Identify the traits present on the
genetic problem

Problem 2:
■ Karen is a carrier of heterozygous blood type B while
Kevin is a carrier of heterozygous blood type A. Karen
is expected to give birth to their first child on the third
week of the month. Could their child possibly inherit
blood type O?

YES, their child possibly inherit blood type O.
Coat color in rabbits is inherited as a series of multiple alleles. This means
that there can be more than just 2 alleles for a single gene. In the case of coat
color in rabbits, there are four alleles, and each one is expressed with a
different phenotype.

MULTIPLE ALLELES

■ Trait can possibly control by two or more alleles in

particular situation.
