APPLICATIONS

What is INTEGRATION?
• Integration denotes the summation of discrete data.

• It is method of adding parts to find the whole. Thus, it can also be said that finding an
Integral is the reverse of finding a Derivative.

• As the slices approach 0 in width, the answer approaches the true value.

• Integration can be used to find the area, volume, and many more useful data.

Finding volumes of solids of
Integration using disc method

The simplest solid of revolution is a right circular cylinder which

is formed by revolving a rectangle about an axis adjacent to one
side of the rectangle (the disc).

To see how to calculate the of a general solid of revolution with a

disc cross-section using integration, consider the following solids
of revolution formed by revolving the plane region bounded by
f(x), y-axis, and the vertical line x=2 about the axis

or where A stands for the area of the typical disc () and or depending
on the axis of revolution.
