THE GLOBAL FILIPINO

• The Philippines has one of the largest Diasporas in the

world today. Migration has become a reality for many
Filipino families that this phenomenon, arguably, has
become part of the national consciousness.
• Family members and this has created several challenges
for many of these transnational families.
Transnational families are
those families that, despite
living apart, try to create a
sense of “Family hood”
across nation-state borders.
These are oftentimes done through economic
remittances as well as the carrying out of responsibilities
through “transnational care-giving”, “taking care” of family
members from a distance, be it one’s children or one’s aging
parents
• These Filipino transnational families are continuously
increasing, with the act of migrating regarded as a “noble”
act. These migrants are considered to be “bagong bayani”
who not only prop up the GDP but earn accolades for
their good performance at their work places. To make our
country competitive in these times, we should be able to
engage with these “global” Filipinos in the task of
rebuilding the nation beyond the discourse of economic
remittances.
-The Philippines Star, 2019
• We export machineries,
semiconductors, wood, cars, crops and
fruits, minerals (gold and copper), ships
and vehicles to other Asian countries,
Europe, and North America
• We have been colonized by 4 big
countries and adopted their culture

• Because of globalization, and the

cultures imported because of trade we
also adopted many other cultures like
KPOP and more.
• But despite of the negative impacts of
globalization, we have no choice but
to accept its pros and consequences.
