Liquid waste disposal

DISPOSAL
Flotation:
-It is the alternative of sedimentation process
in which the air is forced into the waste water.
-The water then becomes super saturated
with air and is discharged into an open tank
-The rising bubbles thus formed bring up the
suspended particles to the surface where they
are removed easily
-More than 75 per cent of the suspended
particles are removed in this process
Digestion:
-Digestion is a microbiological process. It
converts organic sludge to methane,
carbon, dioxide and hummus like material.
-This reaction occurs in a closed anaerobic
known as digester.
-The solid matter is made soluble by
enzymes and then acid producing
bacteria is poured for fermentation
-It reduces the matter to simple organic acids which are converted to
methane and carbon dioxide with the help of bacteria
Drying:
-After the digestion, it is placed
on sand beds for drying.
-Some water percolates in the
sand and some is evaporated
-This activity is known as
dewatering. This process is
more efficient in warm weather.
-When the soil is dried it is used as a soil conditioner and sometimes as a
fertilizer because it contains 2% nitrogen and 1% phosphorous
Septic tanks:
-It is a common method in which a tank is
used to treat the domestic sewage only. It
is a concrete metal tank with submerged
outlet.
-In this tank the solid waste settles and
the material waste rises.
-A liquid stream flows through the submerged outlet and percolates
down to the soil.
-The floating matter and settled solids can remain there for about a year
or so and get decomposed anaerobically
