COVID-19 Vaccine has found, is it actually effective?
The COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet in Indonesia. COVID-19 has a type of virus strain, named/ Severe Acute
Respiratory Coronavirus-2 or SARS-CoV-2. This type of virus was originally discovered in Wuhan, China around
December in 2019. At the beginning of the discovery of this virus, it was found that the source was possibly through the
consumption of bats or other dangerous animals for consumption.

Cases of COVID-19 almost occur in all parts of the world, especially in Indonesia. The Indonesian government announced
that there were patients who were infected or had positive status in March 2020. However, according to an Epidemiologist
from the University of Indonesia, Pandu Riono, that the virus had entered Indonesia since January. Since it was first
discovered, the number of people who are positive for COVID-19 has increased in number to date.

The increase in the number of cases of people infected with the corona virus is not proportional to the cases that have
recovered. More cases are cases that show that more people have tested positive for COVID-19. The number of people
who died from this virus was not small. The virus has made people nervous. Not only is it detrimental in terms of the
economy, the existence of this virus also greatly impacts other aspects of life. In an effort to tackle COVID-19, the
Indonesian
government has attempted to import three million vaccines imported directly from China. Besides
Indonesia, this vaccine is also used by several other countries, such as Brazil, Chile, and Turkey.
Many countries are also trying to fight COVID-19 by using or developing technology for vaccine
development.

The Pfizer Corona Vaccine has a high enough effectiveness to fight or prevent COVID-19, up to about
90%. According to Ahmad Rusdan, Molecular Biology Expert, that this type of vaccine has genetic
engineering technology which will later be used to view the RNA genome of the virus which will later
copy the spike protein in the corona virus.

The existence of this vaccine is a hope for the government and society to return to living a normal life.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, people’s lives are very limited. All activities must also be carried
out from home so that later with the presence of this vaccine, people can return to normal lives.

However, these efforts made other concerns in the community. This vaccine is a new vaccine that has
never been extensively tested before for safety for people to be vaccinated. Not a few people are
against the government’s decision to use the COVID-19 vaccine.
The safety of this vaccine is still a problem because it will be very dangerous if the vaccine is not
safe, especially for the safety of human’s life. In making a new vaccine, it takes years to test whether
it is safe or not, but this vaccine was made in less than a year so it makes people less sure about the
safety of the COVID-19 vaccine.

There is also concern about the side effects that will result from the usage of the COVID-19 vaccine.
People don’t necessarily want to be vaccinated. The adverse effects that occur also result in the
reduction of antibodies in the body.

We should deal with all the pros and cons problems that occur wisely. The government’s decision on
the use of the COVID-19 vaccine must still need attention to safety for the community as the main
point. Anxiety that occurs in the community should also be reduced considering that the government
has tried its best for the community.

The government and the community must work together to contain and prevent COVID-19 from
spreading further. Every individual must have the awareness that maintaining health is very important.
If individuals in an environment maintain a healthy lifestyle, the environment will also have an
impact by being healthy too.
