Necessity of Appropriate Strategy:


 Thousands of people have to face `tragic consequence
of annual occurrences of disasters.
 No proper response, rehabilitation & management
from goverment level.
 Even after more than 1 yr. of Gorkha Earthquake
proper reconstruction work has not started till now.

National Strategy for Disaster Risk Management;
2009 (NSDRM)
• Approved on 11 Oct 2009 by GoN, Ministry of Home
Affairs
• Every person and community has equal role to play;
reducing disaster risk to acceptable & minimum level.
• Designed with a new Disaster Management Act and
appears to be widely accepted and supported at the
national level.
• An innovative form of international cooperation has
been developed to prioritize and implement key
elements of the NSDRM.

• Commitment of GoN protection, growth &
promotion of national heritage and physical
infrastructures
• Reduction of loss of physical properties and human
lives in the tragic consequences of disaster
• Mitigation, preparedness & response for reduction
of effect on environment & natural resources from
various disasters

bodies, academic institution & civil society.

Long term Mission
• Develop institutional structures
• Strengthen and legalize participation of stakeholders
and decentralize implementation process.
• Create enabling environment from the central to
household level to prepare and implement disaster
risk reduction and preparedness plans.
• Ensure mainstreaming disaster reduction into overall
development process along with
sectoral development and poverty reduction plans

• Nepal is facing no. of challenges of different
nature for the reduction of disaster risks
• For addressing those challenges, its necessary to
set up priorities by the assessing the nature of
potential disaster.
• Strengthen assessment and identification along
with monitoring, and early warning system on
potential disaster
• Minimization of factors of existing risks
