BACKGROUND

 Crop harvesting is a process of cutting the

crops close to the ground from the field.
 In Ethiopia the process of harvesting the
crop is done manually by hand using sickles.
 It is a time consuming and
 The safety of the farmers is not granted.
4
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 In Ethiopia a house hold farmer own 2-5 hectares of farming land.
 It takes about 6 men/per hectare of crop field in one day.
 Problems:
- not safe
- lots of grain loss
- takes to much time.

 So to improve this process it is required to design new small hand

operated crop harvesting machine.

OBJECTIVES
 General Objective

 Design And Development Of Crop Harvesting Machine.

 Specific Objectives

 Conceptual development for crop harvesting machine.

 Modeling of mechanical parts of the Machine.
 Prototype development.

LITERATURE REVIEW
 Crop Type

 More than 90% of farmers use sickles to harvest their

crop.
 Stem strength of a single wheat crop is about 5N.
 Sufficient cutting force is 6N and above.
LITERATURE REVIEW
8 methods Limitations Strength

Old and slow mechanism. Labor Works for any kind of land field
and time consuming. and crop. Simple to use.

Has to be carried on the back. Light in weight, faster, safer

Slow, no method of gathering the No energy requirements, very

cut crop to one side. cheap.

Needs high cost. Not user Fast and Reliable

friendly. Cover vast field area at a time.
High cost of fuel
