SOLID WASTE?

derived from the activities of and discarded by society. It is
produced either by - product of production processes or
arise form the domestic or commercial sector when objects
or materials are discarded after use.

MANAGEMENT?

treatment plant, water supply treatment plant, or air
pollution control facility and other discarded material,
resulting from industrial, commercial, mining, and
agricultural operations, and from community activities.
What are the issues
surrounding solid waste
management in the
Philippines?

• Improper wastes disposal

• Inefficient wastes collection
• Lack of disposal facilities are the dominant concerns in
the country’s solid waste management
What are the existing
policies regarding the
issue?

The Philippines has endeavored to improve

its management of solid waste through the passage of RA
9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act that
provides for a systematic, comprehensive and
ecological waste management program to ensure the
protection of public health and the environment.
What steps do we take in
order to solve the problem?

1. Measure your waste - As you change how you manage your waste, you can compare
and see what difference your changes make to the amount of waste disposed to landfill.
2. Reduce - To reduce the amount of waste going to landfill
3. Recycle - Find out what options are available locally for business recycling.
4. Collection services - It is a good idea to find out how levy fees will be managed by your
waste service provider, and find out more about your waste collection service.
5. Separating waste - It’s important to ensure that waste is correctly separated for
recycling. Putting the wrong waste in contaminates the recycling.
