Calibration

Good Data
• It is important that the emission numbers
being taken are reliable, good and accurate.
• Accuracy of data is the factor that will give
you and the customer the confidence to
make decisions on whether the turbine is
meeting the guaranteed limits.
• Therefore the correct tooling if maintained
correctly and calibrated to a high standard
will give you confidence to know that you
are tuning the turbine to accurate limits.
Calibration

• Good accurate readings will depend on how

well the calibration is conducted on the
equipment.
• It is extremely important that the analyser is
in good working order and that a sensor
calibration is carried out before, during (if
longer than 4 hours) and after taking
emissions.
Calibration

• ! Caution
• Gas calibration should only be done
in a well-ventilated area to avoid possible
exposure to toxic substances.
• Calibration can only be performed with
calibration gas of a known composition
and concentration. Gas that has exceeded
its certification date should not be used.
Calibration
• CAUTION:
• DO NOT PRESSURIZE THE ANALYZER WITH
CALIBRATION GAS AS FAULTY READINGS AND
DAMAGE MAY OCCUR. USE A BYPASS VENT.
• A “cal-box” is included with each kit. It is in the form
of a “flooded tee” device
Cal Gas Toxicity levels
CAL GAS CONCENTRATION IMMEDIATE TOXICITY
CO 100 ppm 1200 ppm
NO 100 ppm 100 ppm
NO2 50 ppm 20 ppm
N2 100% vol none, but does displace O2

Immediate toxicity definition = IDHL, “immediately

dangerous to life and health”. The maximum
concentrations for a person to escape without loss of life
or irreversible effects.
High concentrations of N2 in an enclosed space represent
a suffocation hazard.

1 The sample system is considered air-tight when an O2 reading of 0.0% to 0.2% vol is obtained when sampling N2.
2 Sensor zeros are considered acceptable when CO, NO, & NO2 readings from 0 to +/- 2 ppm are obtained when sam pling N2.
