What is Body Image?
Body image is the way we think and feel about the way our
body looks and functions, and the way we behave and treat
our bodies.
Its about how we evaluate our appearance, and how we relate
to our bodies more broadly.
Changing your body does not necessarily change your body
image.
Poor Body Image vs Positive Body Image

• Dissatisfied with appearance • Celebrating your appearance and ≠ associate appearance and
• Being obsessive and preoccupied with your appearance value as person
• Worrying about how you look and are perceived • Accepting your body regardless of whether it meets societal
• Low self-esteem beauty standards
• Feeling connected to your body and being able to listen to it
more
• Feelings of gratitude towards your body
• Does not mean being vain/showing off. Vain = happy if
meeting ideals of beauty

Pretty is Alive – Nikita Gill

What if I told you the word pretty is a skin deep, 6 letter prison they put you in.
They say if you lost some weight you’d be so pretty .
If your skin was clearer, you’d be so pretty.
But what they really mean is, if only you looked like our mass produced ideal, you’d be so pretty.
Let me tell you a secret, they do not want you to know.
Nothing about you is pretty, nor will it ever be so. You see pretty is too small, and simple a word to
capture the exquisitely complex human phenomenon that you are.
Every atom of you was plucked between the quiet between supernovas and stars. A carefully
chosen palette of your skin, your eyes, your muscles and bones from sunsets and skies.
So when they tell you about how pretty you could be, if only cut them off by saying pretty is not
your worth or value, nor something you have ever aspired to be.
