filtration
filtration
A technique in which an insoluble solid
is separated from liquid.
It uses a filter like mesh cloth or a filter
paper to separate solid components
from liquid.
filtration

Study the following mixtures. Tell whether they can be
separated through filtration methods.
Draw happy face if yes and sad face if not.

1. Mongo from baby powder

2. Milk from grated coconut
3. Dried tea leaves from hot water
4. Sand from water
5. Water from the faucet

Sieving
Involves using a strainer or a big screen to
separate the components of solid mixtures.
The strainer used allows the free particles only
through it and prevent the large ones. The
sieving technique is used in separating fine
sand from rocks in the mixtures of gravel and
sand and used in household kitchen in
separating dry ingredients.
Sieving

Example: Example:
Separating sand and gravel Sieving flour to leave the large particle
Draw happy face if the mixture can be separated through sieving,
and sad face if it cannot be separated through sieving.
