SHAPES
•Shape defines the external boundary or surface of an object.
•Shapes in context to geometrical shapes lie in the concepts of plane and solid
geometry.
•Geometrical shapes can be classified as follows –
1. 1 Dimensional Shapes - Line
2. 2 Dimensional Shapes - Polygon, Triangles, Quadilaterals, etc. shapes with
curves.
3. 3 Dimensional Shapes – prism, cube, pyramid, cone, cylinder, etc

Shape also refers to the silhouette of a garment.


•The goal of silhouette is to compliment the shape of the body and alter a woman's
appearance. The shape of the silhouette usually complements the shape of the
body but exaggeration is often used to create special effect or balance and to
emphasize a part of the body which is currently a focus of fashion.
•There are basic shapes for women’s and men’s fashions. Though fashion cycle
focus on a specific silhouette but due to the changes in modern life a great variety of
silhouette are being used. Popular shapes in fashion change over time.
•Silhouette is the most dominant visual element of a garment that dictates a great
many of the other elements that make up a good design.
•Shape or silhouette in fashion is important because it affects how someone sees a
fashion. Our eyes perceive shapes, which have an impact on how the garment is
perceived. Wise selection of shapes can flatter the wearer’s appearance

SILHOUETTES

•In fashion, the term silhouette refers to the line of a dress, or the overall
shape of the garment.
• Silhouettes can be used to emphasize and alter a woman's shape to create a
flattering illusion.
•Different dress silhouettes are designed to flatter different body types as well as to
meet the dress codes for different events.
•Understanding different silhouettes is important as it help in identifying the most
flattering one for the body type.
