Résumé originated from the
French word résumé which
means, “summary”. It is a

Determine your job search

Focus on positive results and
accomplishments.
Keep a consistent, easily-
readable format.
Within each section, you must
list experiences in reverse
DO’S chronological order, starting
with the most recent.
Proofread your work. Ask the
Career Center, friends, and
advisors for help.
Make general claims (“Good
communication skills”) without
backing them up with examples.
Mislead employers about your
DONT’S GPA, skills, or abilities.
Include long, generic objective
statements. Employers won’t
read them!
Don’t go over two pages. Most
underclassman candidates should
DONT’S have a one-page resume, but this
will depend on the amount of
experience you have.

College Admission Letter is
also known as the "letter of
intent". It is a brief discussion
of your intention to be
admitted in a specific course
in college.
Employment Application
Letter is widely known as
a "cover letter". It is used
to introduce yourself to a
prospective employer.
THREE TYPES
OF LETTER
FORMATS
The most common
layout for business letter
is the block format
which means that all
parts of the letter are
aligned to the left.
In a modified block
format, the heading, date,
complimentary close, and
signature are placed
slightly to the right of the
center of the paper.
The least used format is
the semi-block which is
similar with modified
block except that the
paragraphs of the body
are indented.
Note: Your application
letter is only one page in
length and free from
errors. Remember that any
mistake will create
negative impression on
you.

Office Correspondence, or
business correspondence, is a
written interchange of internal

Business letter is the

modified block and semi-
block.

Business memorandum or
memo is a written
communication strictly
between the company’s
offices to another, or used in
internal correspondence.
Memos are also used to
implement internal guidelines
or procedures that the
employees must follow.

TASK 2.2 employment application letter, and any
other type of business letter in their
portfolio (choose two letters among
the various types of business letters
discussed). The portfolio will contain a
