Guidance and Counseling

• Guidance refers to a process of assisting the individuals to develop


their body, mind, personality and character, and to help them in
achieving maximum educational, vocational and personal or
psychological adjustments.
Definition
• ‘Guidance’ involves personal help given by someone, it is designed to
assist a person to decide where he/she wants to go, what he or she
wants to do or how he/ she can best accomplish his / her purpose; it
assists him/her to solve problems that arise in life. Jones, 1951
• The purpose of guidance is to help the student to make more
favorable adjustments. Fowler
Counseling
• Basically counseling involves understanding and working with the
individual to discover his/her unique needs, motivations and
potentialities, and help to appreciate them. Bernard and Fullmer
