BLIND PEOPLE NAVIGATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

• The sensing component in this circuit is IR photo-diode. More the amount of InfraRed light falling on the IR
photodiode, more is the current flowing through it. (Energy from IR waves is absorbed by electrons at p-n junction
of IR photodiode, which causes current to flow) Navigation assistance for visually impaired (NAVI) refers to
systems that are able to assist or guide people with vision loss, ranging from partially sighted to totally blind, by
means of sound commands.
• Many researchers are working to assist visually impaired people in different ways like voice based assistance,
ultrasonic based assistance, camera based assistance and in some advance way researchers are trying to give
transplantation of real eyes with robotic eyes which can capable enough to plot the real image over patient retina
using some biomedical technologies.
• In other way creating a fusion of sensing technology and voice based guidance system some of the products were
developed which could give better result than individual technology.
• There are some limitation in system like obstacle detection which could not see the object but detection the object
and camera based system can't work properly in different light level so the proposed system is a fusion of color
sensing sensor and the obstacle sensor along with the voice based assistance system.
• The main idea of the proposed system to make person aware of path he is walking and also the obstacle in the path.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

• Ir transmitter and Ir receivers are the main part of our project.

• The transmitter sends IR rays out which when fallen on any object it reflects back the reflected IR rays are
captured by IR photodiode or receivers in which it act as a signal the recieved signals are then send to the IC
LM358 which is an Opamp this enriches the process and send out feeble current a strong signal Hence the
process of completion should be indicated as a signal we use such signal to aware from obstacles the signal
which is given to us is a form of sound and light we used the potentiometer to overcome the some phenomena
• The IR rays present in the sunlight may cause noise and act as a barrier to our kit so to overcome such effect
we have placed a potentiometer there to obtain certain amount of signal which is used to clear the barrier The
feeble IR ray from our natural source cannot do much harm to our kit in this we protected our system from
the phenomena.
RESULT
ADVANTAGES

• It is cheap and simple

• Less weight
• It is easy portable
• It is afford to buy
• Military uses
• Low cost
CONCLUSION

• Navigation system for visually impaired people has been designed, implemented, and assessed in both
indoor and outdoor environments. Input from Kinect’s camera and distance sensor compensates for
limitations of each individual sensor.
• The system was tested on both a blindfolded person and a visually impaired person. Both users found
the system to be promising and highlighted its potential in becoming a good navigational aid in the
future. Although some problems were experienced with the Kinect in outdoor locations, it was found to
be reasonably reliable indoors. The proposed solution also provides strong justification for using hybrid
technologies, because of the inability of all sensors to work under all environmental conditions
(sunlight, rain, etc).
