Plant propagation is the

process which grows new

plants from a variety of
sources such as seeds,
cuttings, and other plant parts.
2 types
1. Sexual propagation- is the
reproduction of plants by seeds.
2. Asexual propagation involves taking
a part of one parent plant and causing
it to regenerate itself into a new plant.
-This is propagated by the use of
stems, roots, and leaves.

Common propagation tools and equipment
and their uses:
1. Pruning shears— used for
cutting small branches
including the unnecessary
branches.

2. Budding/Grafting Knives —
used for cutting planting
materials and for performing
other operations in
horticulture.
3.Hand Trowel —used for digging
small holes, mixing in fertilizer,
and transferring plants to pots.
4. Garden Gloves —used while
working in the garden, made of
strong rubber to protect from
thorns and withstand punctures.
5. Shovel —used to turn over soil
and dig up plants for
propagation.
6. Sprinklers —used to water
seedlings and young plants.

7. Water Pail —used for

hauling water, manure, and
fertilizers.
8. Wheelbarrow —used to
transfer soil plants and other
materials from one place to
another.
9. Sprayer —used for
spraying chemicals to
eliminate insects or pests
in plant.

10. Hand Fork —used for

crumbing the soil
surrounding the plant.
There are three ways in watering plants:

1. Natural—Watering the plants through the

rain.
2. Manual —Watering the plants using pail
and dipper or water sprinkler.
3. Artificial- water produced from a deep
well, dams, and river with the help of
motors.
Fertilizer is a substance added to the soil
that help the plants grow healthy.

1.Inorganic- artificial fertilizer made

from chemicals (liquid, soluble and
granular form).
2.Organic- natural fertilizer from
decayed materials, animals, and
other natural sources.
Type of Organic Fertilizer
➢ Humus – comes from decayed matters from
plants and animals mixed with soil.
➢ Manure – comes from animal wastes
➢ Compost – comes from decomposed
biodegradable wastes
➢ Vermi compost – comes from waste of vermin
(earthworm)
➢ Liquid Fertilizer – made from the juice of
plants and vermin compost through the process
of concoction.
