Definition
1. Prepositions are usually used in front of a noun (noun) or pronoun (pronoun) and indicate the relationship
between the two words and other words in a sentence. They can describe the position, the time, the way
something is done, and so on.

2. Prepositions are words whose function is to show the relationship between the object and other parts of the
sentence. This English preposition along with its object describes a verb (verb), noun (noun), or adjective
(adjective). Objects of prepositions can be in the form of nouns, noun phrases (noun phrases), pronouns
(pronouns), or gerunds (verb + -ing).

3. A preposition can consist of only one word (one word preposition), or a combination of other parts of speech
(complex preposition).

Prepositional phrases can be divided into adjective prepositional phrases and adverbial
prepositional phrases. Adjectives function like adjectives that explain nouns, while adverbials
function like adverbs that explain verbs, adjectives, or adverbs.

1. The family under the bridge has to scramble to buy food.
(Keluarga di bawa jembatan itu harus berjuang untuk membeli makanan.) adjectival prepositional phrase

shows the "way" relationship between its object and other
words in a sentence.

(Kami pergi ke sana menggunakan pesawat, namun kami kembali

5. Preposition of Purpose
(Tujuan)

The preposition of purpose is a preposition that shows the


"purpose" relationship between the object and other words in
a sentence.

Ex : example of sentences:
*for 1. Do you know how to set a table for dinner?
(Apakah kamu tahu bagaimana cara menyiapkan meja
untuk makan malam?)
6. Preposition of Quantity/Measure (Kuantitas/Ukuran)
Preposition of quantity is an English preposition that shows the
relationship "quantity" or "size" between the object and other
words in a sentence. The prepositional phrase of quantity will be
able to answer questions such as: How much? How long?

Some nouns, adjectives, and verbs have a "pair" of prepositions. noun/adjective/verb +
preposition + object of preposition shows the relationship between noun/adjective/verb

Preposition dan Conjunction
There are several prepositions that have the same structure and meaning as subordinate
conjunctions. These prepositions include: after, before, since, and until. The difference
is if the preposition is followed by a word or phrase, the subordinate conjunction is
followed by a clause that at least consists of a subject and a verb.

Ex of sentance:
1. You will receive the payment before the end of this month.
(Kamu akan menerima pembayaran sebelum akhir bulan ini.)

2. You will receive the payment before you leave tonight.
(Kamu akan menerima pembayaran sebelum kamu pergi malam ini.)
