MEASURES OF POSITION

FOR GROUPED DATA

(QUARTILES)
JASON BIGATA
REMINDERS
• Find a quiet place where you will be able to
concentrate.
• When you have a question, type in the google
meet chat and wait for the teacher to call on you.
• Wait for the teacher to call on you to unmute
yourself. Only one student should talk at a time.
• Stay on topic when chatting.
OBJECTIVES
• Illustrate quartiles of grouped data;
• Calculate specified values of quartiles of a
set of grouped data;
• Interpret quartiles of grouped data; and,
• Solve real-life problems involving quartiles
of grouped data.
QUARTILE FOR GROUPED DATA

 The quartiles are the score points which

divide a distribution into four equal parts.
 The grouped data means the data or
information given in the form of class
intervals.
QUARTILE FOR GROUPED DATA
In computing the quartiles of grouped data, the following formula is
used:

( )
𝑘𝑁
− 𝑐𝑓 𝑏
4
𝑄𝑘 = 𝐿𝐵+ 𝑖
𝑓𝑄 𝑘

where: lower boundary of the class

total frequency
cumulative frequency of the class before the class
frequency of the class
size of class interval
