Water is essential for the

survival of human beings
and other living things.

The hydrosphere or the

liquid water part of the
earth, which is also called
“water sphere” covers
about 70% of its surface.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE USES FOR
WATER:
• Cooking
• washing clothes
• taking a bath
• keeping the house and community clean
• recreation and
• keeping plants alive in gardens and parks
Sources of Water

Some of the rainwater seeps through
the soil and stored into the nonporous

called underground water.
IMPORTANCE OF WATER
• Weather shows and explains the interactions between the atmosphere hydrosphere and the lithosphere.
• Water regulates body temperature through perspiration .
• Without water, the body usually cannot survive longer than a week .
• Water is essential for the efficient elimination of waste products through the kidneys .
• Water carries nutrients and oxygen to all the body cells and facilitates all the chemical processes that happen
in body .
• Water plays a role in the prevention of diseases . Drinking an adequate amount of water reduces the risk of
colon and/or bladder cancer .
• Water also plays a major role in regulating metabolism .
• Water helps to maintain the muscle tone and lubricates the joints, helping it to reduce body fatigue and
soreness during exercise or strenuous activities .
• Drinking water makes one healthy.
IMPORTANCE OF WATER

• The water cycle is also very important because it is a continuous movement of water on, above, and
below the earth surface. It is always changing and in motion. Heat makes the cycle work .

SOME OF THE HAZARDOUS EFFECTS ON
WATER POLLUTION ARE AS FOLLOWS :
• Reproductive damage within wildlife in an ecosystem .
• Aquatic animals are caught and killed due to suffocation caused by improper disposal of garbage .
• Flooding due to accumulation of solid waste materials .
• Soil erosion in streams and rivers .
• Contaminated water used for drinking and swimming causes skin rashes and health problems like
stomach pain, typhoid fever, diarrhea, and cancer in humans .
• Groundwater contamination from pesticides can harm the reproduction rate of wildlife.
• Coral reefs are affected by the bleaching effect due to warmer temperatures .
