PROCEDURE TEXT

Procedure text is a type of text that serves to inform the reader about the steps
to do something.
Social Function.
Procedure text is a piece of written or spoken text which has the social function
to inform the readers or the listeners how to make or to do something. It can be
in the form of a set of instructions, directions or a manual.
Aspects of the Text Procedure

a).Structure of Procedure Text

Procedure text has a different generic structure from other types of text, namely:
• Aim/goal It is located in the title of the text and is used to indicate the purpose of the
text.Example: How to Make Noodle

• Ingredients Contains materials or tools needed in the steps to carry out the process.Example:
The materials to make an omelette are egg, onion, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper.

• Steps/methodsContains the method, method, or steps taken to achieve the objectives in the
text.Example: First, wash the tomatoes. Then cut it into slices.
b).Language Feature

The following is the language feature of a procedure text.Using the simple present tense,
and most of it is in the form of an imperative sentence, especially in the "Steps" section, we
can see that everything is in the imperative form because the sentence begins with a verb,
for example "Add some water, Mix the ingredients" and so on. And also generally often use
a temporal conjunction or numbering, to show the sequence of stages correctly, especially
if the procedure text is in written form.
For example: First, add some water, second mix the ingredients and so on. The language
features of the procedure text are imperative sentences, action verbs, connectives,
adverbials, and simple present tense. Meanwhile, the procedure text is considered as the
simplest text among the other text types
