INTRODUCTION
An Ultrasonic motor is a type of electric motor formed from the ultrasonic vibration of an component , the stator
being placed against another , the rotor depending on the scheme of operation.
These motors offer high torque density at low speed , high holding torque , simple construction and have a quick
response.
Conversion of electric energy into motion by inverse piezoelectric effect.
These characteristics of USM makes them attractive for robotic application where small motions are required.
CONSTRUCTION OF USM
An USM rotates a rotor by using ultrasonic waves with high frequencies more than 20,000 Hz which a human
cannot hear.
The USM generates ultrasonic waves using piezoelectric elements.
WORKING
Low cost
High efficiency
Compact size
Energy saving
No magnetic interference
High torque
PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT
Piezoelectric Effect is the ability of certain materials to generate an electric charge in response to applied
mechanical stress.
Piezoelectric material Quartz (Si02),and Barium Titanate (BaTi03),Lead zirconate and occasionally lithium
niobate.
High sensitivity
High resonance frequency
High stability
Small in size
FUTURE SCOPE
In future , these motors may find applications in the field like automobile industry , nano positioning ,
microelectronics , micro electro mechanical system technology and customer goods.
CONCLUSION
Hence the ultrasonic motors, which is a new step in the miniaturized electrical technology has got many
applications in small appliances because of its high torque at low density.
