Try to find the missing term in
the given sequence.
1) 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
__
9 , 12 , 15
2) 3, 6, __
25
3) 1, 4, 9, 16 , __

A Sequence is a set of
things (usually numbers)
that are in order.
Each number in the
sequence is called a term
(or sometimes "element"
or "member")
To find a missing number, first we must have
a Rule behind the sequence. Sometimes it
helps to find the differences between each
pair of numbers ... this can often reveal an
underlying pattern.
We can see that each term is 2 larger than the previous
term. We say the term- to-term rule is "add 2”
Fill in the blanks with the correct
missing terms of each given
sequence.
1) 8 , 11 , __ , 17 , 20
2) 35 , 29 , 23 , 17 , __
3) 1 , 2 , 4 , __ , 16
4) x , 2x , 3x , 4x , __
5) 2 , 4 , 12 , __ , 240
Study the pattern and give the next number in each
sequence. Then write the rule in finding the nth term on the
space provided.
1) 1, 4, 9, 16 , _____ Rule: ______________
