INTRODUCTION

AN ITEM WHICH SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AT


WORKING PLACE IS KNOWN AS FOD, i.e. FOREIGN
OBJECT DAMAGE WHICH CAUSES DAMAGE TO
AIRCRAFT OR SYSTEM OF A/C.
FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGE
CAUSES FACTOR
A REVIEW OF PAST ACCIDENTS , INCIDENTS
AND DEFECTS HAS ESTABLISHED THAT THE
FOLLOWING FACTORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FOD:
 TOOLS LEFT BEHIND AT THE WORK
CENTERS IN THE AIRCRAFT.
 NEW OR OLD CLASS ‘C’ SPARES LEFT IN
THE AIRCRAFT.
 LOOSE ITEMS DISENGAGED/FALLEN
FROM OVERALLS SUCH AS BUTTONS, KEYS
COINS ETC.

PINS, DRILLED RIVETS, RUBBER SEALS ETC.
EXTRA PANELS LEFT IN THE AIRCRAFT.
SEVERAL CASES OF LEFT OVER FOOD
LEADING TO PRESENCE OF RODENTS, NESTS OF
WASPS AND BIRDS.

ANTI FOD MEASURES
ALL TECHNICIANS ARE TO CARRY THERE
TOOLS/SPARES IN AUTHORISED TOOL BAG
CONTAINER.
THE TOOLS TO BE COUNTED BEFORE AND
AFTER SERVICING.
NO LOOSE ITEMS SUCH AS COINS AND KEYS
ETC ARE TO BE KEPT IN THE OVERALLS.
OVERALLS WITH VELCRO/FASTENER AND
ZIPS ARE TO BE USED.
FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGE
ANTI FOD MEASURES
AFTER COMPLETION OF SERVICING WORK,
THE TRADESMAN ARE TO CHECK THE AREA FOR
CLEANLINESS AND FOD.
 AFTER COMPLETION OF WORK FODS ARE TO
BE DEPOSITED IN FOD DRUM.
 ON COMPLETION OF WORK AT

NOTE: RESTRICTED ACCESS/PLACES’’ SUCH AS


COCKPIT ARE TO BE CLEANED USING VACCUM
CLEANER.

GROUND RUN POINT
THE ENGINE TRADESMAN IS TO CHECK
THE FOD CAGE AND AIR INTAKE GUARDS AND
VERIFY THAT THEY ARE FIT FOR USE DURING
GROUND RUN.
 THE ENGINE TRADESMAN SHOULD
CARRY OUT A THOROUGH FOD CHECK OF THE
ENGINE COMPRESSOR.
THE TECHNICIAN WHO WORK ON A/C
MUST WEAR OVERALLS HAVING VELCRO
FASTENERS(STRAPS) INSTEAD OF BUTTON.

ANTI FOD MEASURES
WO I/C AIRCRAFT IS TO ENSURE THAT:
THE A/C IS THOROUGHLY CLEANED
EXTERNALLY. SPECIAL ATTENTATION IS TO
BE PAID TO MAINTENANCE OF CONTROL
SURFACES AND THERE CLEANLINESS.
FOD DISCIPLINE IS FOLLOWED BY
ALL TRADESMAN PRIOR TO AND DURING
GROUND RUN AT GROUND RUN POINT.
CLEARANCE FROM ALL TRADES IS
OBTAINED BEFORE G/R AND SIGNED IN IAFF(T)
700.

ANTI FOD MEASURES
FOD CAGE IS SERVICEABLE.
FOD PARADE IS CARRIED OUT AROUND AIR
INTAKE AREA PRIOR TO G/R.
THERE IS NO UNNECESSARY MOVEMENT OF
PERSONNEL AND VEHICLES IN FRONT OF THE AIR
INTAKE DURING G/R.
SIKH AIRMEN DETAILED FOR ACTIVITIES
CONCERNED WITH G/R TIE A ‘THATHA’ OVER
THEIR TURBAN.
THE A/C IS NOT LEFT UNATTENDED IF THE
GROUND RUN IS ABANDONED FOR SOME REASON.

ANTI FOD MEASURES
TRADESMAN REQUIRED TO BE PRESENT DURING
GROUND RUN DO NOT HAVE ANY LOOSE ARTICLES
LIKE CAPS, GOGGLES.
RINGS, KEY, CHAINS ETC.
 INDEPENDENT FOD CHECK TO BE CARRIED OUT
BY A SUPERVISOR AND AN ENTRY TO BE MADE IN FORM
700 TO
THIS EFFECT.
 O I/C CR&SS WILL EXERCISE NECESSARY
SUPERVISION.
