 Three phase and two phase
machines

• Induction machines have three phase stator

windings.
• Stator AC currents create the vector of magneto
motive force FS=Fa+Fb+Fc.
• This vector has radial direction withing the
machine and does not have any axial component.
• The same plane can be represented by
rectangular coordinate system of two orthogonal
axes denoted by α and β or d-q-0 axis.

zero (d-q-0) is called Clark transformation.
• abc and d-q-0 both are rotating.
