HEALTH and its DIMENSIONS


OBJECTIVES:
1. Explain the dimensions of holistic
health (physical,
emotional ,Social, moral-
spiritual)
2. Analyze the interplay among the
health dimensions in developing
holistic health.
What is health and wellness?
HEALTH –is a state of complete
physical, mental and social well-being
and not merely the absence of
diseases or infirmity, and the ability to
lead a socially and economially
productive life. (WHO)
Wellness
- It is the quality of life that includes
physical, mental, emotional, family,
social and spiritual health. It is also
defined as a healthy balance of the
mind, body and spirit that results in an
overall feeling of well-being or as an
active process of becoming aware of
and making choices a succesful
existence.
What are the dimensions of
health?
. Physical health- generally, is the

condition of body
-defined as the absence of disease and
disability
2. Emotional Health – the ability to feel
and express human emotiond,give and
receive love,achieve sense of fulfillment
and purpose in life and develop
psychological hardiness.
Social Health
- The ability of an individual to perform
the expectations of our roles
effectively ,comfort ability with
pleasure and without harming others.
- It is also defined as the ability to
effectively interact with others
through maintaining intimacy and
showing of respect and tolerance.
Mental Health
• - encompasses the intellectual
processes of reasoning , analysis,
evaluation, curiosity, humor,
alertness, creativity, logic, learning,
and memory. It is also includes stiving
for continued personal growth,
willingness to learn and use new
information effectively for personal,
family and career development.
Spiritual Health
• The deep level of faith, hope, and
commitment in relation to a well –
defined world view or belief system
providing a sense of meaning and
purpose to one’s exsitence.
• It offers an ethical path to personal
fulfillment that includes connectedness
with oneself, others and higher or
larger reality.
What are the health habits to
achieve holistic health?
• Have a regular exercise. Teens should get
60 minutes or more of physical activity a
day.
• Eating three meals a day, each at a regular
time.
• Getting 8-9 hours of sleep each night.
• Avoiding drugs, tobacco and alcohol
• Staying at a recommended level of weight.
ACTIVITY:
• List the words that define or are associated with
the words in the circles. Examples are given.
Activity 2:
A. Look at the list of words below. Determine and justify which
one influences health the most. Number them from 1-5 with
number 1 as the most important and 5 as the least important.
