2
INTRODUCTION

Overview: Current status of hydropower projects in Nepal.

Challenges: The challenges and barriers faced by the projects.

Views: Consultation with the Project team for their views for the
reason behind delays and its impacts

3
Background

Construction Delays: - Exceeding specified completion dates.

Cost, complexity, and risky in the construction industry.
Financial burden and disputes among stakeholders.

Focus on Hydropower Projects in Nepal:

As the Private sector projects are frequently lag behind by 3 to 5
years so studies will be on the same

4
Statement of the Problem

Challenge: Timely and budget-friendly completion of

Projects is continuous challenge in Nepal.
Local and Social Issues, Finance and Governing Policies,
Recent pandemic challenges, leading to work disturbances.
Impact: Projects experience disruptions, causing profit
loss and increased costs as well as Project Schedule.
Focus: Need to identify and address causes for minimizing
delays and enhancing productivity.

5
Rationale of the Study

To study and understand the reason behind the delay in

Hydropower Construction

To minimize issues for the upcoming project to meet their

schedule and cost.

6
OBJECTIVES
Primary Objective:
To identify the causes and impacts of construction delays in
private hydropower projects within Nepal.
Specific Objectives:
 To Evaluate the current status and challenges of under-
construction and operational hydropower projects,
 To identify major causes and impacts of delays in completed
and ongoing projects

7
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The Limitations of the Study are will be focus on the:

Geographical Limit: Private Hydropower Only

Capacity Limit: 9 MW to 86 MW

Temporal Constraints: Either on Construction or in Operation

Participant Selection: Stakeholders, Managers, Engineers

8
LITERATURE REVIEW

After Reviewing different Articles and Journals

Abundant Resources: 43,000 MW economically viable potential
out of 83,000 MW but Only 2608 MW connected to grid
Operational Challenges:- Energy surplus in monsoon, deficit in
dry seasons.
Power Distribution:- 95.03% population with electricity access,
Majority from run-of-river plants, leading to seasonal imbalances.
Key Stakeholders:- DoED, Ministry of Energy, Finance, Defense,
Forest, NEA, IPPs, IBN, Project Teams, Local and Social, Playing
the role from planning to execution, each entity contributes to
project success.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Legal Framework and Policies

Electricity Act 1992, Hydropower Development Policy 2001,
Environment Protection Act 1997, Land Acquisition Act 2034, Forest Act
1993.
 238 hydropower projects under construction and 141 on operational
stage.
Reasons for Selection:
Mostly under construction and operation projects, having the construction
period of three years, faced with delays ranging from 3 to 5 years.
Focus on eight Private-owned projects, ranging from 9 MW to 86 MW.

10
METHODOLOGY

This research will follow the methodology that unfolds through five key stages:

Literature Review:

Selection of Study Sample Projects:

Data Collection:

Data Analysis:

Conclusion:

11
EXPECTED OUTCOMES

Construction Approaches: Impact on the adoption of

Innovative construction technologies and tools to accelerate and
optimize construction processes.
Financial Impact: Financial effects associated with delays and is
impact on interest, penalties, and potential revenue losses impacting
investors.
Project Planning: Impact on the entire Schedule and its
implementation
Root : Aware to the Stakeholders and Concern parties about the
causes and its background scenario for the upcoming period.
