Introductory Mechanics

BSCS 04th Section A

Mechanics?
• Mechanics is a branch of physics that deals with the motion and
forces that act on objects.

It is one of the oldest and most fundamental areas of physics, and it

underpins much of our understanding of the natural world.

Classical & Quantum Mechanics
• Classical mechanics deals with the motion of macroscopic objects.
• quantum mechanics deals with the behavior of subatomic particles

Areas of Classical Mechanics
• Kinematics
• Dynamics
• Statics

Kinematics
• Deals with the description of motion, without reference to the forces
causing the motion.
• In kinematics, we study quantities such as position, velocity,
acceleration, and time

Dynamics
• Dynamics deals with the forces that cause motion.
• In dynamics, we study the relationships between forces, mass, and
motion, such as Newton's laws of motion.

Statics
• Statics deals with objects that are not moving or are in equilibrium,
where the forces acting on an object are balanced.

How: CS and Mechanics?
• Computer graphics involves the creation, manipulation, and display of
images using computers.
• to create realistic simulations of physical systems, such as the
behavior of fluids or the motion of objects, knowledge of mechanics is
essential.
• Example, a physics engine used in a video game or simulation would
require an understanding of Newton's laws of motion and other
mechanics concepts in order to simulate the movement and
interaction of objects accurately.

How: CS and Mechanics?
• Mechanics is also used in robotics, where robots are designed to
move and interact with their environment in a way that is similar to
how humans and animals move.
• Understanding mechanics allows engineers to design robots that can
move and perform tasks in a way that is efficient and effective.

How: CS and Mechanics?
• Mechanics is also used in the design and analysis of structures, such
as buildings and bridges.
• Computer-aided design (CAD) software is used to model and simulate
the behavior of these structures under different loads and conditions,
and knowledge of mechanics is essential for accurate simulation and
analysis.

accurate and realistic simulations and designs that accurately capture
the behavior of physical systems.
