EXAMPLE 1: The Alternating harmonic series (Un=1-+……..)
SOLUTION:

I. Un+1 < Un for All n N

II. ==0
By Leibniz test series is convergent UN |=1+++……..+
By P-Series test UN | is not convergent that is UN is conditionally convergent

EXAMPLE 2 prove the series sin is conditionally convergent ?

SOLUTION :
an= sin
|an| =sin = - . +.………….

Let Vn= then by comparison test
=

(1-n^2+n^4-…………) : P2(Divergence) & P(Convergent)

By the axillary Vn= (P ) is Divergence

& By comparing test |un| is also Divergence
Hence the given series is conditionally convergent.

EXAMPLE: Show that the Series |x|^n is uniformly convergent in [-1,1 ] .
SOLUTION :
Let fn(x) = & gn (x)= |x|^n
Here fn(x) = is convergent by Leibniz test.
Since fn(x) is independent of x , hence fn(x) is uniformly convergent .
Again we know that |gn(x)|= |x|^n 1 for -1 x 1
Hence <gn(x)> is monotonic decreasing & bounded on [ -1 , 1]
So Abel Test fn(x) gn(x)= |x|^n is uniformly convergent in [-1,1 ] .
