THIRD GRADING
(LESSON 2)
SPECIAL
PARALLELOGRAMS
Lesson 2
Learning Goals:
At the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to:

1) Identify quadrilaterals that are parallelograms;

2) apply properties of special parallelograms in solving problems;
and
3) make a perspective output of different quadrilaterals and
their properties as God has designed our characteristics for
future purposes.
SPECIAL TYPES OF PARALLELOGRAMS
A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles and its opposite sides
are congruent.
A rhombus is a parallelogram with four equal sides.
 A square is a parallelogram with four equal sides and four right angles.
”Square is an equiangular rhombus and it is an equilateral
rectangle.”
PROPERTIES OF SPECIAL
PARALLELOGRAMS
PROPERTIES OF A RECTANGLE
i. A rectangle has all the properties of a parallelogram.
ii. All the angles of a rectangle are right angles.
iii. The diagonals of a rectangle are equal.
iv. The diagonals of a rectangle bisect each other to form 4 equal line segments.
v. A diagonal of a rectangle divides it into two congruent right triangle.
Consider SHON is a rectangle. Example
S H
D

N O

1.) If NH = 28 cm, then 2.) If HO = 11 cm, then

DH = _____
14 cm SN = 11
_____
cm
ND = 14 cm
_____
28 cm
SO = _____
Consider SHON is a rectangle. 3.) If SO = (13x+9)cm, and NH = (7x+27) cm
S H then x = ___ , SO = ___ , NH = ___
D

N O

Find x SO = NH Find SO Find NH

13x + 9 = 7x + 27
SO = (13x + 9)cm NH = (7x + 27)cm
13x – 7x = 27 – 9
SO = 13(3) + 9 NH = 7(3) + 27
6x = 18
SO = 39 + 9 NH = 21 + 27
=
SO = 48 cm NH = 48 cm
x=3
PROPERTIES OF A RHOMBUS
i. A rhombus has all the properties of a parallelogram.
ii. All the sides of a rhombus are equal.
iii. The diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular to each other.
iv. The diagonals of a rhombus bisect its angles.
v. A diagonal of a rhombus divides it into two congruent isosceles triangle.
Consider HATE is a rhombus. Example
H A 1.) If ER = 7.5 m, then
15 m
EA = _____
R
7.5 m
RA = _____

E T

2.) If ∠AHT = 50⁰, then

40⁰
∠HAE = _____

If ∠EHT = 46⁰, then

44⁰
∠HEA = _____
Consider HATE is a square. Example
H A 3.) If HR = (11x – 42)m, and RT = (7x – 6)m
R then x = ___ , HR = ___ , RT = ___

E T
Find x HR = RT Find HR Find RT
11x – 42 = 7x – 6
HR = (11x – 42)m RT = (7x – 6)m
11x – 7x = -6 + 42
HR = 11(9) – 42 RT = 7(9) – 6
4x = 36
HR = 99 – 42 RT = 63 – 6
=
HR = 57 m RT = 57 m
x=9
PROPERTIES OF A SQUARE
i. A square has all the properties of a rectangle and rhombus.
ii. All the sides of a square are equal.
iii. The diagonals of a square are perpendicular to each other.
iv. The diagonals of a square bisect its angles.
v. A diagonal of a square divides it into two congruent isosceles right
triangle.
Consider HOPE is a square. Example
H O
3.) If EO = (8x – 45)m, and HP = (5x – 12)m
S then x = ___ , EO = ___ , HP = ___

E P
Find x EO = HP Find EO Find HP
8x – 45 = 5x – 12
EO = (8x – 45)m HP = (5x – 12)m
8x – 5x = -12 + 45
EO = 8(11) – 45 HP = 5(11) – 12
3x = 33
EO = 88 – 45 HP = 55 – 12
=
EO = 43 m HP = 43 m

39 m
ES = 19.5
_____m With diagonal HP
SO = 19.5
_____m ∠HPE =45⁰
_____
HS = 19.5
_____m
VALUES INTEGRATION:
And the Lord continued, “Mortal man, tell the people of
Israel about the Temple, and let them study its plan. Make
them ashamed of their sinful actions. Then if they are ashamed of
what they have done, explain the plan of the temple to them: its
design, its entrances and exits, its shape, the arrangement of
everything, and all its rules and regulations. Write all this down for
them so that they can see how everything is arranged and can carry
out all the rules. This is the law of the temple: All the area
surrounding it on the top of the mountain is sacred and holy.”
