WHAT IS TILE?

 Is a manufactured piece of hard wearing material such as:

 Ceramic
 Stone
 Metal
 glass
CLASSIFICATION OF CERAMIC TILES

 Glazed tile – are principally used for walls and light duty
floors
 Unglazed tile – are hard, dense and homogeneous
composition, primarily used for floor and walls
T YPES OF TILES

 Porcelain tiles – are made from the pressed dust processed

into fine grain, smooth, dense, and shapely formed face.
T YPES OF TILES

 Natural Clay tiles – are made from either the pressed method
or the plastic method from dust clay that produced a dense
body with distinctive slightly texture appearance.
T YPES OF TILES

 Ceramic Mosaic Tiles – are mounted on a 30x30cm paper as

binder of the tiles to facilitate its laying or setting.
T YPES OF TILES

 Quarry Tiles – are made through the plastic extraction

process from natural clay or shale.

ABC TILE ADHESIVE HEAVY-

DUTY is a cement-based
adhesive designed for
bonding all types & sizes of
tiles and stoneware for floor
and wall tile installations.
High quality aggregates and
selected chemical additives
are used, strictly conforming
to International Standards.
MANUAL COMPUTATION FOR TILE GROUT

Step 1: Add Length and Width of one Tile = A

Step 2: Multiply tile thickness and joint width = B
Step 3: C = (A x B) x tile grout density (1600 kg/cu.m.)
Step 4: Compute area of one tile (D)
Step 5: C / D = E in kg/sq.m.
Step 6: E x Area to be tiled = F in kgs
Step 7: convert it into no. of bags (2kgs/bag)
2kg per bag for ABC
ORIGINAL and 5kg per bag
for ABC SANDED

ABC TILE GROUT is a high quality

tile joint filler designed for all
kinds & sizes of tiles, pavers,
synthetic & natural stone. The
purpose of a tile joint is to
accommodate possible tile Tile Grout = 1 kilo/square meter

deformation, substrate shrinkage,
tile expansion, substrate
movement or structural
deformation. Having tile joints
prevents tiles from debonding,
buckling or tenting.

 From figure, solve the ff. materials using Area Method:

 30x30cm floor mosaic tiles
 .15 x .15m wall glazed tiles
 Corner Bead and Capping
 Tile Adhesive
 Tile Grout for 3mm joint all
 Door Jamb Height 2.1m
TERRAZO AND GRANOLITHIC

 A type of marble mosaic finished that uses portland cement

as base material.
 It has a characteristic of durability of great beauty and
variety.
METHODS OF INSTALLATION

 Monolithic or Cast-in Place

 The floor is cast directly on top of the concrete floor slab preferably
not less than 24 hours nor more than 6 days after the slab is poured.
METHODS OF INSTALLATION

 Precast
 Where terrazo or granolithic finish are made on top of a cement mortar
base molded in various tile dimensions.
