FORCES

FORCE
• It can not be defined but its effects can be
identified
• It can cause push or pull on a body.
• It can accelerate or decelerate a body.
• It can change speed
• It can change direction
• It can compress or stretch a body
It cannot change the mass of a body.
Its unit is newton “N”.
TYPES OF FORCES
• Weight (gravitational force)
• Friction
• Drag, air resistance
• Tension (elastic force)
• Electrostatic force
• Magnetic force
• Thrust (driving force)
• Contact force
FORCE OF FRICTION
It is an opposing force which slows down the slide motion of one
body over the other.
Effects of friction
slows down motion
heat/ loss of energy
Methods to reduce friction
stream line bodies
use of lubricants

NEWTONS FIRST LAW W0gavSzhMlTWm6Sr5uN2Uv5TXHiZUq8b&index=18

• In the absence of net force

• A body at rest will remain at
rest and a body in motion will
continue uniform motion.
INERTIA
The inability of a body to change its state of rest or uniform
motion.
Greater the mass greater is inertia
NEWTONS SECOND LAW
• In the presence of net force
Body will accelerate in the direction of force
Acceleration will be directly proportional to net force and inversely
proportional to mass.

NEWTON FIRST AND SECOND LAW
MOTION , FRICTION AND SECOND LAW
• As speed increases
• Air resistance increases
• So resultant force decreases
• So with the same forward force
acceleration decreases.
• When air resistance becomes
equal to forward force terminal
velocity reaches.
NEWTONS THIRD LAW
• For every action there is an equal and
opposite reaction. They mutually act on two
different bodies.
