OPENING PRAYER

LORD, WE THANK YOU FOR GRANTING US THIS OPPORTUNITY TO COME TOGETHER IN THIS CLASS TO INCREASE OUR KNOWLEDGE. LORD, YOU SAID THAT IF ANYONE LACKS WISDOM, THEY SHOULD ASK YOU
AND YOU WILL GIVE LIBERALLY WITHOUT RESERVATION. I PRAY TODAY THAT YOU GRANT US WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.

INCREASE OUR CAPACITY, LORD, AS WE LEARN. GIVE US UNDERSTANDING, OH GOD, THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO GRASP WHATEVER IS BEING TAUGHT. MAY WHAT WE RECEIVE TODAY BE BENEFICIAL TO OUR
GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT.

LORD, I PRAY FOR THE ONE THAT WILL BE IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE TO US. I PRAY THAT YOU WILL BLESS THEM WITH THE REQUISITE SKILL AND MASTERY AS THEY SEEK TO OPEN UP OUR UNDERSTANDING IN
THIS CLASS.
THIS WE ASK, IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.
INTRODUCTION
Before studying the next lesson, take the following
activity first.
Activity I. Graph Me.
Direction: Find the center and radius and graph.
1. x2 + y2 + 6x – 4y + 4= 0
2. x2 + y2 – 2x + 6y +16 = 0
3. x2 + y2 + 2x + 2y – 7 = 0
4. x2 + y2 – 4x – 2y – 4 = 0

APPLICATIONS OF
CIRCLES
RECALLING THE CONCEPT OF A
CIRCLE AND ITS PROPERTIES
There are many uses of the circle in everyday life.
Chances are if you look around your room, you may
find an application of a circle. Let us turn our attention
to some of the analytic applications of circles.
Cite an example/s.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES

Example 1. Find an equation of the circle with center at (-

3,-1) and tangent to the line
2x – y -1 = 0.
.
SOLUTION

Using the equation of the straight line and the coordinates of the center
of the circle (-3,-1) and using the formula given above then we can get
the length of the radius of the center. The given line is 2x – y – 1 = 0.
So a = 2, b = -1, and c = -1
SOLUTION
• Now, the radius is the
distance between the line (at
the point of tangency) and
the center of
• the circle, thus

PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF CONCEPTS AND
SKILLS IN DAILY LIVING

There are numerous uses for circles in

architecture, landscaping, graphics,
infrastructure, transportation, and other fields.
Some of them are as follows.
