C. Apply their knowledge of finding the area of composite figures to solve real-world
problems.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Finding the Area of Composite Figures Formed by any Two or more of the
following: Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Circle and Semi-Circle

Who is absent in row 1?

None, Sir.

How about in row 2?

None, Sir!

How about in row 3 and 4?

Very good.

C. Energizer Yes, Sir.

Before we proceed to our

discussion let first sing the song Yes, we are!
entitled One, two buckle my shoe.
Are you familiar in this song? Shapes are everywhere, shapes are
everywhere. Shapes are everywhere,
shapes are everywhere.
Triangle, rectangle, oval, circle, square.
Are you ready? Circles everywhere, circles everywhere.
Wheels, cookies basketballs are circles
everywhere. Triangles everywhere,

bow tie, triangles everywhere.
Rectangles everywhere, rectangles

Did you enjoy our song?

D. Drill

I will show you different shapes, and you

will identify what shape it is. Did you Square
understand?

Triangle

Rectangle

Parallelogram

Circle

Very Good. Our lesson is all about calculating speed,

distance and time
E. Review

Before we proceed to our new

lesson in this morning. Some of you
may recall our lesson last week?

Very Good.

F. Motivation

Guess the shapes.

There are four shapes.

How many shapes do you see here in the

house? Square, rectangle, trapezoid, circle

What are the shapes?

Very good! You got the correct answer. Composite figures are made from two or
more geometric figures.
G. Presentation

Let’s find out what is the composite

figures?

Please read, everyone.

Very Good.

This is the example of composite figures.

Square and triangle

What figures do you see?

Very good.

Now, I will show a formula for the area of

shapes:

Downloaded by AL ADLAW (al.adlaw@deped.gov.ph)

lOMoARcPSD|15789567

We are going to answer this:

How many geometric figures can you see

in the garden plot?

Two figures, which are the square and

semicircle,
Great answer.

We will use the formula of area of square.

What is the formula of square?

A = s2
How about the semicircle?

A=1/2(πr2)
Let’s solve it!

Downloaded by AL ADLAW (al.adlaw@deped.gov.ph)

lOMoARcPSD|15789567

Area of square
A= s2
A= (10)2
A= 100 m2

Area of semi-circle
A= ½(πr2)
A= ½(3.14)(5) 2
A= ½(3.14)(25)
A= ½(78.5)
A= 39.25 m2

Let’s add the area of square and circle.

100+39=

A= 139.25 m2

Did you understand?

Maybe sir.
Another example:

Area of square
A= s2
A= (3) 2
A= 9cm2

Area of rectangle
A= l x w
A= 10 x 4
A= 40 cm2

Downloaded by AL ADLAW (al.adlaw@deped.gov.ph)

lOMoARcPSD|15789567

Very good. A= 49 cm2

Another example:
This is an area of shaded parts

How many figures do you see?

Very good. The first one is circle and the

other is square. There are 2 figures, sir.

We will use the formula of are of square.

A= s2
A= (4) 2
A= 16 ft2

What is the formula of circle?

A = πr2
A= (3.14)(2) 2
A= (3.14) 4 A = πr2
A= 12.56 ft2

Answer is 3.44 ft2

Did you understand class?

Very Good!
Yes, sir.

Downloaded by AL ADLAW (al.adlaw@deped.gov.ph)

lOMoARcPSD|15789567

H. Guided practice

Area of semicircle
A= ½(πr2)
A= ½(3.14)(42)
A= ½(3.14)(16)
A= ½(50.24)
A= 25.12 cm2

Area of triangle
A= ½(b)(h)
A= ½(8)(12)
A= ½(96)
A= 48 cm2

A= 73.12 cm2

Correct answer!

I. Generalization

Okay class, let’s have a recap about in

our discussion or lesson for today. What is
the composite figure?

Very Good! I hope that did you Composite figures are made from two or

understand our lesson very well. more geometric figures.

J. Application

I will group you into two groups. Each

group will be given a different activity. I will
give 7 minutes to finish your group
activity.

For group 1 and 3:

Area of triangle
A= (b)(h)
A= (6)(5)
A= (30)
A= 15 ft2

Area of rectangle (A)

A= l x w
A= 9 x 6
A= 54 ft2

Area of rectangle (B)

A= l x w
A= 4 x 6
A= 24 ft2

The total area of composite figure is

93 ft2

Downloaded by AL ADLAW (al.adlaw@deped.gov.ph)

lOMoARcPSD|15789567

For group 2 and 4:

Area of rectangle:
A= L x w
A= 9 x 2
A= 18 ft2

Are of square
A= s2
A= (4)2
A= 16 ft2

The total area of composite figure is

38 ft2
