Wireless Ambulatory Electrocardiography
Wireless ambulatory electrocardiography (ECG) is a type of ambulatory
electrocardiography with recording devices that use wireless technology, such as Bluetooth and
smartphones, for at-home cardiac monitoring (monitoring of heart rhythms).
A medical device used for monitoring and recording the electrical activity of the heart
over a period of time, without the need for wired connections between the patient and the
monitoring equipment.
It typically consists of electrodes attached to the patient's body, a recording device, and
wireless communication capabilities to transmit data to a monitoring station or healthcare
provider.

6 Wireless Ambulatory ECG Application
1. CardioSecur ACTIVE
A smartphone based 15-lead mobile ECG for patients.
2. Alivecor
A heart monitors that 1are currently available in the United States, the UK, and Ireland.
3. iHealth
A wireless ECG monitor that is placed on the chest under clothing, and the data are sent to
mobile phones and is readily available for healthcare professionals.
4. Qardio
A wearable ECG monitor that wirelessly sends data to the smartphone for the user and health
practitioners.
5. Beurer
A single-channel ECG monitor without dedicated electrodes that transmits data via Bluetooth to a
smartphone.
6. Lithuanian company ZIVE
A single-channel ECG monitor (3 channel optional), that transmits data to iOS or Android
phone.
Benefits of Wireless Ambulatory ECG
1. Continuous Monitoring
Wireless ambulatory ECG allows for continuous monitoring of the heart's activity over an
extended period, typically 24 to 48 hours or even longer.
2. Mobility and Convenience
This mobility enhances patient comfort and compliance with the monitoring protocol,
leading to more reliable data collection.
3. Early Detection of Cardiac Events
It can facilitate timely intervention and prevent serious complications such as stroke or
heart failure.
4. Remote Monitoring
Allows clinicians to promptly review the recorded data, identify any abnormalities, and
intervene as necessary, even if the patient is located far from a medical facility.
5. Improved Patient Outcomes
It can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and improve overall cardiac health.
Benefits of Wireless Ambulatory ECG
6. Improved Diagnosis and Treatment
It enable healthcare providers to make more accurate diagnoses and develop personalized
treatment plans for patients with cardiac conditions.
Conclusion
Wireless ambulatory ECG technology represents a significant advancement in cardiac
monitoring, offering patients greater mobility, comfort, and convenience compared to traditional wired
systems. By enabling continuous monitoring of cardiac activity over an extended period, these devices
provide healthcare providers with comprehensive data to accurately diagnose and manage cardiac
conditions.
Real-time data transmission and remote monitoring capabilities further enhance the
effectiveness of wireless ambulatory ECG in facilitating timely interventions and improving patient
outcomes. With its ability to capture a wide range of cardiac events and abnormalities, this technology
has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach cardiac care, making it more accessible,
efficient, and patient-centered. As we continue to harness the power of wireless technology in
healthcare, wireless ambulatory ECG stands out as a valuable tool for optimizing cardiac monitoring
and enhancing the quality of patient care.
