First Grade News

With three weeks under our belt, the
students have done a great job of ad-
justing to their new schedule. They are
off to a wonderful start!
Next week we will begin spelling. The
new spelling list will be sent home each
Monday (unless it’s a really short week)
and we take the tests on Fridays. You
can look for your child’s first spelling
list to be sent home on Monday, Septem-
ber 14th.
I am sending home a reading notebook
with your child today. In this notebook
there will be different reading and writ-
ing activities to do with your child, along
with an explanation of what you are to
do. You will have one week to complete
the activity in the notebook. If it is a
reading activity only, please sign your
name somewhere on the paper to let me
know your child has completed it. Your
child needs to bring his/her notebook
back, signed, by the next Friday. This
will give your child extra practice and
reinforcement of things we are learning
in first grade.
Even though the school year is just un-
der way, those holiday parties will be
here before we know it. I am sending
home the party help sheet today. Please
sign up wherever you are able and re-
turn the form to school by next Fri-
day, September 18th. Then I will com-
pile the list and give you the final
schedule with my next newsletter.

I am also sending home a field trip
permission form to the apple orchard.
All information is included on the form.
Please sign this and return it to school
by next Friday, September 18th.
School pictures will be taken this Mon-
day, September 14th. Picture forms
were sent home earlier this week. If
you would like to order pictures, please
fill out the form and return it along
with a check to school by Monday.
There will be no school this Wednes-
day, September 16th due to profes-
sional development meetings.
