Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to

continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and
actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and
adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Name of Artifact: Child Observation
Date: December 2013
Course: EDUC 250: Educational Psychology
Brief Description:
This assignment was an observation that I conducted about a young girl, age
4, with speech impediments and a hearing impairment as well. In the observation I
went to the childs home, as well as the daycare she attended to get a grasp on how
her social skills differ in contrasting environments.
Rationale:
To document my understanding of InTASC Standards #9, Professional
Learning and Ethical Practice, I have selected to include my child observation,
because it is one example of where I advanced my professional learning through
observation. This observation showed the individuals actions around her family
versus around her peers. The child took on a leadership role at her daycare around
her peers, whereas at home the child was the baby of the family and made her
parents feel guilty for not letting her do the same thing as her sisters to get what
she wanted.
