Standard #5: Application of Content

The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to
engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving
related to authentic local and global issues.
Name of Artifact: Playground Inspection
Date: July 2014
Course: EDUC 240: Intro to Physical and Health Education for Teaching
Brief Description:
For this assignment I chose a partner, and then we both had to choose a
playground from the same category (we chose schools) and compare/contrast their
differences according to inspection questions given to us by the instructor. After
getting the information we needed, we were required to put together a PowerPoint
presentation over what we found at each playground, including pictures and a basic
Venn diagram.
Rationale:
To document my understanding of InTASC Standards #5, Application of
Content, I selected to include my playground inspection presentation, because it
shows how working collaboratively with another individual can be beneficial to
both you as a student, and also to the audience. By having each partner in this
assignment inspect a different playground, the audience is able to see the
differences in playgrounds, and also see how we should make changes to promote
more risk-free environments for our students.
