Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration

The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take

responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families,
colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner
growth, and to advance the profession.
Name of Artifact: Social Factors Reflective Paper
Date: April 2014
Course: EDUC 255: Multicultural Teaching
Brief Description:
This assignment talks about how social factors affect a childs learning
growth, specifically lack of role models. When there is a lack of role models in a
childs life, his learning might not be encouraged and other factors such as his
health and behavior may be affected. If a parent is a bad role model according to
how she eats (such as eating a lot of sugary foods or fast food), then the child will
most likely gain weight when he takes after his mothers eating habits. The same
is true of physical activity. If a parent doesnt exercise, or promote physical
activity at home, the child will become lazy and less healthy.
Rationale:
To document my understanding of InTASC Standards #10, Leadership and
Collaboration, I have selected to include my Social Factors Reflective Paper,
because when a social factor such as lack of role models is apparent, a teacher
must step up into that leadership role. This teacher must provide information about
healthy eating habits, physical activity, or some other topic which has not been
exhibited successfully in that childs home. This teacher must also exhibit those
healthy habits which he talks about, to become that positive role model for the
child. Also, the teacher should collaborate with the childs parents to further
promote positive role models and healthy habits.
