Standard Five: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model

lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and
professional community by promoting and demonstrating the
effective use of digital tools and resources.

Name of Artifact: Measurement Activity

Date: October 2014
Course: EDUC 201: Using Computers in Education

Brief Description: This activity requires students to go around the room and
measure stationary objects such as a pencil, table, desk, etc. After recording their
measurements on paper, students are then required to use Microsoft Excel to create
a graph chart and a pie chart to representing the differences in size of the objects
measured.
Rationale: To demonstrate my understanding of Standard Five: Engage in
Professional Growth and Leadership, I have chosen to include my Measurement
Activity assignment. In this activity, students are made to hand-record their
measurements of objects, and then use Excel as a digital tool to chart their
findings. This work is done individually, promoting leadership skills as it is a task
without assistance unless requested by the student. Once students get a general
idea of the sizes of these common objects, it will promote lifelong learning with
the schema they now have relating to the activity, when needing to know general
measurements of other similar objects.
