from houses and garages, stolen farm machiner- and sheep rustling0 Residents are urged to report an-thing
suspicious immediatel- %- telephoning 101 if a ro%%er- is in progress phone 111!0 2n the current period, the police
e(en want to $now a%out 3o- riders dri(ing across fields at night0 *he police are interested in finding a 4reelander

,e(elopment &rder has recentl- %een amended to allow the change of use of agricultural %uildings to a range
of other uses including dwellings, shops, restaurants, offices, light industr-, state-funded schools and
registered nurseries0 *hese pro(isions are Auite complicated and so to find out more parishioners are strongl-
ad(ised to spea$ to the #+,C Planning ,epartment0
e! <ecause <an$s Renewa%les ha(e withdrawn the application to %uild the Billington wind farm, at a pre(ious
meeting, a Auestion was as$ed a%out whether a fast internet connection will %e pro(ided from Armistead wind
farm0 #peednet #cotland ha(e assured the Council that a speed of up to 20.% will %e a(aila%le after a fi%re
lin$ has %een made to the wind farm0 2t is hoped to do this soon0 A large surrounding area will %e ser(ed
including places which do not ha(e a direct line of sight to the Armistead wind mast0

#+,C is proposing to introduce a Communit- 2nfrastructure +e(- C2+!, which would appl- to #outh +a$eland ,istrict
outside National Par$s0 *he C2+7s purpose is to help fund infrastructure to support de(elopment proposed in the +ocal
Plan0 A proportion of C2+ receipts will %e passed to Parish and *own Councils for communities to spend on local
infrastructure pro3ects, for e/ample G:90 for a detached house0 *he Parish Council agreed with the principle of the C2+
and the proposed scale of charges0

*he Parish Council agreed that the preferred National 8rid option of digging a tunnel under .orecam%e <a- for the
new 400B? transmission line from .oorside nuclear power station is the %est option0 *he Council does not wish to
see further harm done to (isual amenit- %- the construction of such a power line through the +a$e ,istrict National
Par$ and open countr-side around .orecam%e <a-0 2t also e/pressed concern a%out possi%le harm to wildlife in the
%a- and to the rare ha%itats on its shore0 *he Council also does not wish to see the remote possi%ilit- of the 1'2B?
line from Natland to )utton su%station %eing replaced %- a 400B? line, the further e/pansion of )utton su%station, and
construction of another 400B? transmission line in the parish parallel to the current one0

a! #outh Cum%ria Ri(ers *rust has spra-ed the patches of "apanese $notweed
%! A fungus has %een imported from the natural home of )imala-an %alsam and has %een tested in the
la%orator- on a large num%er of our nati(e species with no effect0 #ites for controlled field trials are now
needed0 *he Parish Council agreed that it has no o%3ection to such trials su%3ect to the permission of
landowners0 #outh Cum%ria Ri(ers *rust will inform the scientists0
