UPON THE CONSTITUTIONS OF SERBIA FROM THE

KARAORE TO ST. DEMETERS DAY CONSTITUTION
Summary
Constitutional issue in Serbia appears to be the key one for the constitution of the
state organization already since the beginning of the Serbian national revolution that was
lead by the vod (duke) Karaore. By the constitutional acts from 1805, and then by
the acts of the constitutions of Sretenje (Orth. Visitation of the Virgin), then by the
Turkish and Regents ones and after that by the constitution called a Radical one, all
of which were written and accepted during XIX century, the foundations of a modern
Serbian state were consolidated. At the beginning of the 20th century, after a certain his
torical slowdown during the existence of a socialist Yugoslavia, the development of the
Serbian constitutionality based on modern democratic foundations was renewed. By the
Republic of Serbia Mitrovdanski (St Demeters Day) constitution the creation of the Ser
bian nation statehood has been confirmed and the reign of the law and authority divison
have been consolidated and in conformity with the principles of the modern European
constitutionality.
