Inspiration

By Sara Anandji

Stereotype
Our main character in Imprisoned, Michael
Douglas, who play Elliot Roberts is see to be a
Stereotypical Black man who has bad
intentions. First we see him as if he is a house
robber, but then further along, we see his true
intentions when he spots a girl sleeping in her
bed. He has a very serious look, we see a close
up of his eyes, which look very wicked.

The call
The film The Call which was released in 2013, is a crime-thriller
written by Richard DOvidio and Directed by Brad Anderson. It is
about a 911 veteran operator who receives a call from a teenage
girl who has just been abducted. Moreover, there was a scene in
the beginning of the film that had inspired me for what I had
wanted to do for the production. As the director, I had to find a way
that I could this inspiration to create my own version. My team and
I had though o a solution for our version, we decided that the killer
starts off with walking down the street from a dark alley. He then
spots the front door to a big house opened, which then he decides
to make his opportunity. After that, he looks around the house and
makes his way upstairs where he spots teenager sleeping. This is
when we see his true intentions and makes his way to attack her.

Prisoners
Another film that inspired me was prisoners which was
released in 2013 and was also a crime-thriller directed by
Denis Villenueve. We originally though of an opening for
our film where the brother of the abducted girl confronts
the killer. This was from the inspiration of a scene from
prisoners. The father of the abducted daughter had to
take matters in his own hands to deal with the abductor of
his child. The father then tortures him to find out why and
what has happened to his daughter. In Imprisoned the
brother of the sister who was taken had shot the killer In
the arm, he then would threaten to make his short life a
living hell which then he dashes him round the head with
the gun he had used to shoot him.

Other AS Productions
After watching multiple examples of other AS
production and short films, I had been able
gather ideas to how I want my production to
be presented. Many shots used in other
productions have me an indication of what I
wanted. Extreme close up of the characters
faces were very important, especially for the
scene we were doing. Expressions of the faces
from the characters meant that as an
audience, we were able capture how they felt.

General Thriller Films

In general, thriller films have an important purpose,
which is to keep you on the edge of your seat and
interested to find out what happens next. They
can either be predictable or be the total opposite
to what you thought would happen. Thrillers
never fail to meet their aim, each ending has a
purpose and their main purpose is to tell the
story, but in different ways. Some endings to the
audience, can either be perfect, debateable, or a
cliff hanger that can cause some interesting
opinions (e.g. the ending of Prisoners).
