Richardson defended Penn State's Talor Battle well. The Illinois bench only contributed 2 points on 1-11 shooting besides Jeff Jordan's defense of Battle. Illinois narrowly defeated Penn State and remains undefeated in the Big Ten, but will need more contributions against better teams going forward as McCamey and Tisdale carried the team in the last two wins.

    Frontcourt: B

    Mike Tisdale continued his hot streak


    with 16 points, matching a career
    high with 13 rebounds and setting
    a career high with seven blocks.
    But Mike Davis is missing in action.
    He grabbed a key rebound late.
    Otherwise, he was drifting through the
    game. Bill Cole hit a big second-half
    3-pointer.
    Frontcourt: A
    While Demetri McCamey was scoring
    a season-high 25 points, D.J. Rich-
    ardson hounded Penn State guard
    Talor Battle. On the final possession,
    McCamey made Battle’s desperate
    3-point attempt from 21 feet even
    harder with a hand in his face.
    Bench: D
    Besides Jeff Jordan’s defense on
    Battle, there wasn’t much else from
    the bench. The reserves accounted for
    two points on 1-for-11 shooting.
    Overall: B-
    Fortunate to survive another nail-biter
    with Penn State, the Illini head to
    Michigan State for Saturday’s early-
    season conference showdown with an
    undefeated Big Ten record. McCamey
    and Tisdale were a two-man show in
    these last two wins. Against the better
    teams in the league, the Illini will
    need more contributions elsewhere.
